Barmy Army CC v Almar CC
Saturday 2nd January 2010 @ The Dumas Oval, Cape Town.
Almar CC 142
Barmy Army CC 143-9
Barmy Army CC win by 1 wicket
After our disappointing Ashes defeat to the Fanatics in the summer, the Barmy Army Cricket Club bounced back in superb style by defeating hosts Almar CC on a superb afternoon at the Dumas Oval.
The 35 over a side match, organised to help raise funds for charity, saw BACC sneak home by one wicket. Chasing a tricky 142 for victory, half centuries from ex Gloucestershire 'keeper' Steve Adshead and Millers (definitely not an ex-county player) saw the Army home for a famous win.
A brilliant day, organised superbly by Paul DaCosta and Almar CC was thoroughly enjoyed by all. With the braai and the beers in full flow.
Generous contributions from players and spectators helped to raise over R4000 for Khayelitsha and Delft sporting clubs. This money will be spent on helping to keep these clubs running and supporting the under privileged kids who attend. A very worthwhile cause.
The day acted as a reminder of the great work that cricket can do in the local community, something overshadowed in the days of Million Dollar IPL contracts, so a huge thanks to all who turned out and supported.
Finally, a big thanks to sponsors Blue Square who provided special shirts for the Barmy Army on the day. Thanks guys!
Remember that Blue Square are offering great odds throughout the series, so if you back your judgement put it to the test here
