Barmy Army Colts - History

How England's Barmy Army Colts came to be

The Barmy Army Colts Cricket section was set up by Paul Burnham (Co-Founder of the Barmy Army) and Mark Stear in 2003 after a chance meeting at the Walton CC President's Day. The outcome of that encounter is that there is now a thriving Colts Section that organises Tournaments, Coaching clinics, Matches, Tours and fun days involving Colts from all over the country.

England's Barmy Army Colts organisation has already taken several Representative Squads to Gibraltar, India, Sri Lanka, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah and Dubai. Last year 2010 the Barmy Army Colts toured Abu Dhabi & Dubai and have just completed a fantastic trip to Singapore/Australia Dec 2010 following the Ashes.

The standard of Colts taken on these Tours is high and the emphasis is on good venues, good opposition and an education that will give everyone an extra experience in the game of cricket, local life and conditions.

Mark Stear, who is a Retired Police Officer, played for Berkshire CCC for several years, plays for the MCC, CCC and Stanmore CC and is helped by opening batsman Malcolm Roberts who played Minor Counties cricket for Bucks CCC, MCC, CCC and also captained the England Amateur X1.

Sponsors Shredded Wheat, The First Group, Paradise Travel and SMCall for example have assisted the "Barmy Army Colts" with their cricket matches, tours and events as have had several other individuals and Groups. The assistance they have given has helped towards the success of the Barmy Army Colts.
