Tickets for the 2010/11 Ashes went on sale in July 2010. The first (and largest) release went on sale to Australian residents (with Australian credit cards) who were registered with The Australian Cricket Family. If you know anyone in Australia who might be able to help you out, get them to register.

That said, if the first two Tests are Brisbane and Adelaide as they were last time, there shouldn't be a problem getting tickets for those two Tests when they go on general release. That's as long as you get in quick. The Gabba Test didn't quite sell out last time. Adelaide did on the first 3 or 4 days, but not straight away, and the capacity has increased since then.

For those planning on doing other Tests, Melbourne is unlikely to be a problem for tickets either. The two where you really will need to get in quick are Perth and Sydney.

I'd obviously like to be in with the Barmy Army, is it necessary to buy tickets through the BA or just get tickets anywhere and head to where the BA are? Will the BA be selling their tickets about the same time.

When I went to Sydney and Melbourne last time round I wasn't sat with them and it wasn't really the same!

If I remember rightly last time the official Barmy Army tour group were in block 39 at the Gabba. We got lucky and managed to get tickets in block 38. Having said that by day 3 there were loads of people who had moved round from other parts of the lower tier into my block.

Adelaide wasn't a problem as you could get general admission tickets for the grass bank below the scoreboard and you could pretty much wander anywhere in the stadium apart from the members stand.

If you can get tickets through someone you know in Australia then that would be better in my opinion. Last time you could only buy official Barmy Army tickets if you purchased accommodation as part of the package and from my experience in Adelaide I could have arranged tickets and accommodation separately cheaper (and probably better - as anyone who was in The Blue Galah will probably confirm) myself.

Cricket Australia normally only allows the Barmy Army to sell tickets to those booked on an official tour. If you're travelling independently your best bet is to just buy a ticket for the cheapest part of the ground that's available (especially if you can get somewhere unreserved) and take it from there. You'll usually find yourself in with some like-minded people.

It's a bit more difficult now than it used to be for everyone to get together inside the ground, because in recent years Ashes Tests have tended to sell out, and reserved seating is the norm. At The Gabba last time I found myself in Section 13 underneath the press box. It was on pretty much the opposite side of the ground to the main Barmy Army lot, but there was nevertheless a fun-loving English contingent who sang some very silly songs and got behind the team when things were going badly. They really got on the case of the Australian bowlers and eventually the journalists in the press box too. It meant that Super Mitch got an earful wherever Ponting made him field. It was all totally spontaneous, and some of the best fun I'd had at the cricket in ages.

For Adelaide, as Mr. Phelps says, just go for the grass bank.

the most popular thing seems to be just get tickets into the ground and then try and move closer to the barmy army...

On a similar note, I'm planning on going on my todd, so if anyone wants to get tickets as a group let me know, nothing worse than being sat in a block full of crooks!

July, that's right, the last 2 series downunder have gone on sale in July!!! Of course next July I will be in England for the ashes as well!!! Wouldn't surprise me if Cricket Australia don't opt for July again, a time when any loyal Australian supporters will be over in England

im thinking about going for the full duration. im planning on just getting a plane ticket and travel to where england are playing and staying in back packers. the problem seems to be getitng tickets. can you just turn up on the day or can you just go to the ground near the time and buy tickets over the counter or do they sell out. hmmmmmmm any ideas?

Best to get tickets in advance. This is normally done on-line. Perth and Sydney in particular sell out completely within hours of going on general sale. In the case of the other venues, whether or not they sell out will depend on how well the Aussies do in the summer.
