Know wonder the lads liked you, bit of banter there fella........very unusual for an Aussie Seriously mate, nice one........general feeling amongst us is that most security, be it police or security guards at the cricket is pretty heavy handed in both of our countries. Different police/security work in different ways I suppose, I like to enjoy the work, that doesn't mean people get away all day with being knobs. Don't underestimate the fact that large groups of people chanting, singing, disciplined and very very loud, (and speaking a funny language!!) might been seen as a bit intimidating by some. But I get your message. Enough of the serious stuff, could it be that the English have fallen for our well laid plan??? Let them 'hoist up the John B sail.....and take the urn home' but our main aim was to win the ODIs... Didn't think of that did ya?? Can't wait for MJ to bowl today, you can rest assured I'll be humming along...'he bowls to the left...........' at exactly the same time as you are.... Good luck for game 3 |

Walking into the Paragon Hotel on the evening of the 4th Day to find a load of the Army singing a song that I'd made up in Melbourne. |

MCG: To the tune of She'll be Coming 'Round the Mountain. Trott got a century, why ain't you? Trott got a century, why ain't you? Trott got a century, Trott got a century, Trott got a century, why ain't you? We scored 500, why ain't you? etc. We've got a spinner, why ain't you? We've got an urn, why ain't you? Is it just because we're better than you? Is it just because we're better than you? Is it just because, just because Is it just because we're better than you? At the SCG: Cook got a century batting two. etc Bell got a century, Prior too. We got 600, why ain't you? We got a captain, why ain't you? We got a spinner. We've got an urn. Is it just because we're better than you? Ok, I know it's not the most inventive of songs ever but it seemed to work. Glad so many sung along in both the Turf Bar and the Paragon. If anyone has a link to a you tube clip of it being sung I'd be grateful. Was so busy singing I never got to take any videos. |

Thought the whole tour was a bit of a dream the way the cricket went in the last 2 tests. Although I think Boxing Day was pretty hard to top, what a day that was!! It was good to see the initial entusiasm of the Aussie support (ie sledging) drain away and for most of them to end up either sitting very quietly, slagging their own team off, leaving, or even better being ejected from the ground all to the chorus of Cheerio from the England supporters?! To be honest I've never seen so many people chucked out of a cricket ground?! My favourite was in the evening session when a big Aussie lad stood up in front of the Barmy Army with his top off and had "98 What a C#@t" written on his back and very promptly getting escorted out of the premises. Though the riot police standing in front of the terraces behind the Barmy Army seats were a bit OTT mind?! |

Best moment....two spring to mind...make that three. 1. Sitting on the grass in Adelaide, start of the test match.....within five minutes the DOC's ( Descendants Of Convicts )....were three down. The Euphoria......totally bloody awesome. 2. Having to forfeit my right to watch the fourth test in Melbourne as a friend needed some help sorting out a problem at his property. Had to listen to the first day's play with an earpiece in. The continuous dashes to the tv as wickets just fell one after the other. To have them all out for the lowest score in OZ in a century....totally bloody awesome. 3. The day the Army bought Mitchell Johnson's wicket. I wached as Haddin's wicket fell....and it was almost as if a lightning fast message had travelled right around the entire England supporters... "Johnson's next"........and then the chant began.......it moved from the Barmy Army quarter and spread left.....almost like a mexican wave.....and it got much louder. I watched as Haddin left the ground and sought out the incoming Johnson... But he never showed.... Haddin had departed and still no Johnson......why not? where was he? He HAD to be padded up long ago..... It seemed like ages before Johnson appeared and the Army let him know they had not forgotten him......the ceasless chant went with him to the middle of the SCG. He seemed very reticent, withdrawn, and, as he took his stance to face Tremlett the Army and all who joined in ( and there were thousands ),....kept chanting..."he bowls to the left....he bowls to the right......." And then.......Tremlett must have had the gods ( or even better... the Army ) on his side as a gem of a ball went straight through Johnson....shattering the stumps..... THe entire England supporter base, man, woman, child, English bobby, marshmallow man....EVERYONE.....leapt to their feet in total jubilation...... and.....as Johnson....dejected....and i would surmise.....shattered......trudged from the SCG....his now infamous chant followed him back to the dressing room from whence he came moments earlier. I have never ever seen a crowd take a wicket before..... I doubt I will ever see anything like this happen again. It was totally bloody awesome. Well done everyone who contributed. |
