Goody ,Perth is expensive big time ,even a motel far out of the city will set you back well over a $100 a night with not even a weetabix in the morning,a lot of hostels about 30 mins walk from WACA in Northbridge cant advise as never stayed in them ,with England in town i cant see many bargains popping up ,sorry to be bearer of bad news mate ,but hey you never know .

I've stayed in Underground Backpackers in Northbridge, although not for a few years now. It has a pool and was certainly OK then. They currently still have availability. A dorm bed will set you back about £18, a double or twin room about £50. Another Northbridge place that sounds OK is The Old Swan Barracks. They actually have a single room (shared bathroom) with a TV and fridge for Aus$50.

Both these places are conveniently located. Another conveniently located place where I've stayed in the past is the YHA, the other side of the tracks from Northbridge. It was also OK, but nowadays doesn't look to be exactly cheap if you want your own room, even for YHA members.

If you're looking at hostels, be sure to check reviews on booking sites because there are some really terrible places in Perth.

Thankfully i have friends in Perth although in town when no cricket is on my travelling companion will insist on a visit to the WACA ,i always thought the hostels in Northbridge looked very rough and ready but having spent a lot of time in Perth (about 500 nights )ive never heard of any trouble with travellers although Northbridge is a outdoor boxing ring at weekends ,the quid is slowly climbing against the Aussie dollar ,when i was out in 2011 i had a right shock buying dinner, prices had shot up so much since i was there in 2009 and the weak pound didnt help.

The Aussies will put their prices up to cover that.
