Terrible terrible news - my one abiding memory was of George in Chittagong 2010. I could only do the first test, but George made sure he put up a banner for my wife's birthday when he was in Dhaka. RIP George |

Just heard the terrible news. Memories of Melbourne on Honeymoon in 2006 celebrating with the bottle of champagne generously provided by George. Top man, always looking out for others. RIP - Nigel & Sarah |

Gutting news too hear, so shocked!! Did so much for us on tour since I met him esp in Cape Town with the box. He joined us on our trip and travelled with us from Adelaide - Melbourne on the GOR after the Adelaide test last time out - Had out night in Warrambool for our stopover and a great night, remember arriving at the 12 Apostles and Oprah Winfrey's crew been there but George been George stole the show and the local paper reported on the Barmy Army crashing the Oprah party, Thanks for the memories and what you did for us and others on tour pal, you'll be sorely missed |

Never really knew him,met him briefly on the grass bank at The Wanderers on the last tour of South Africa. He just sauntered over, said who he was,and got chattin. Seemed a decent bloke, well known by many on here. R I P George. |

I've just been on the phone to my ex wife, who is a close relation to George and is obviously like us all devastated. I told her to log on to this forum and the smb, to see all the lovely messages. It's appreciated at this hard time. |

R.I.P George Terrible news, i find it hard to take in, George was larger than life, George was an absoloute gentleman and went out of his way to help everyone whether they were a friend or stranger. A huge personality with an even bigger heart. I only had the pleasure to meet him on the Bangladesh tour bumping into him at Dhaka airport. He had never met me and went out of his way to help me for which I will be forever grateful. Who could ever forget organising cold beers for the hotels and his friendship with bilal. Gone but definately never forgotten, you will be greatly missed. My thoughts are with the family at this sad time. Mark |

We will hear story after story of George helping people but nothing sums it up better than this for me. Aussie cricket fans falls 5 metres out of the stand and knocks himself out. Have a look who jumps down to help him out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-Mk2HkwPc8 |

This is shocking news and so terribly sad. I picked up on the news as I was about to board a flight back from Bangkok and it'd been playing on my mind since. We only had the fortune of meeting George for the first time on the last Ashes tour in the Jetty Bar, Glenelg. He was a great character and even when I'm out boozing with the lads, just thinking about his antics coming out of the taxi below our Genelg apartment of an evening after the Adelaide test always brings about a laugh and a smile. We were looking forward to seeing him again in Sri Lanka. Regrettably, we won't again have that pleasure. Rest in peace, George. ps: Huey, great link. |

Terrible news indeed, Rest In Peace George. My 3 fondest memories of George are the last day of the Sydney test last year, I had to smuggle him into the members using someones membership card, he's stood outside in the loudest surf shorts i've ever seen, asks the woman on the gate if he can go in dressed like that and she says "no" so he just rips them off and whacks some jeans on, right infront of her!!! Then once inside and in the pavilion, after being told to be discreet, he's straight upstairs and the flag's out, then he decides to join in with the "I shagged Matilda" chant coming from the other side of the ground, very loudly ![]() RIP George, a top man, will have a drink in your honour in Galle!!! |
