Hi, Me and my pal have booked flights to watch the Perth, Melbourne and Sydney tests and travel to Brisbane for a cheeky couple of weeks after the 5th test. For both it’s a first time travelling with the barmy army! The opportunity to spend my 23rd Birthday in Perth, christmas in Melbourne and new years in Sydney was too good to turn down! I have read the forum frantically over the past 3 weeks (doing little work as a result) for advice and found many useful tips information that have already been invaluable when trying to plan and organise the trip. We have decided to book flights and accommodation ourselves and risk getting tickets rather than choose the travel packages. We have our flights booked but just wondered if anyone had any tips re accommodation. We’ve looked at the airbnb site, looks to be some fantastic places on there, does anyone know if you have to pay up front or if you can pay a deposit and pay the balance nearer the time or even on arrival? If anyone has any suggestions regarding accommodation, tickets or any general comments it would be much appreciated. See many of you out there! |

Re tickets, do you or your mate have access to anyone in Australia that might be able to help you out with this?? Based on the last 2 tours tickets will go on sale first to members of the Australian Cricket Family, to do this you need a credit card with an Australia billing address. Melbourne will be no problem at all, tickets easily obtained, Sydney a bit harder and Perth harder still. To be safe for Perth and Sydney you'd be better off getting in on this pre-sale if you can. If not, it's not the end of the world, tickets will be held back for the general sale when you'll be able to purchase from the UK. If you are unlucky and miss out it's still not game over.......stay in touch here as tickets are always getting swapped or sold onto fellow fans at face value. Plus the Aussies are a fickle bunch, once we hand their arse to them in the home leg demand will be significantly down on previous years for the return series. Also, keep an eye on this thread www.barmyarmy.com/forum_new/index.php?v ... =36&t=7502 Nothing confirmed yet but we are hoping CA will make ticket only packages available in the Barmy Army areas which is something they haven't done the last 2 tours. If this comes off you'll be able to get in the BA stands, if not unfortunately you'll have to make do with were you can get. |

Thanks for that, really great information. My pal does have family in Sydney who we will try to get us tickets. If for some reason that doesn’t come off, can we purchase from ticket master Australia when they come out on general sale out there? That’s great stuff about tickets still going for face value from fans to fans. I’ll defiantly be keeping up to date on the forum been a great help so far. Really excited and cannot wait! Once again thanks for your help any more tips or advice is always welcome and very much appreciated! |

If I recall it depends on the venue which agency they use but it is either ticketmaster or ticketek. I really can't see there being a problem getting the tickets you want this time. In 06/07 it was bloody hard and plenty of us did miss out, but that was on the back of the 2005 Ashes and the Aussies still had a great team. In 10/11 it was much easier and I don't think I heard of any Eng fans missing out..........this year considering it's a back to back Ashes and the Aussies are, well shite, demand is sure to be less again. I'll be interested to see how many Eng fans make the trip this year too, I wouldn't imagine many could afford to do both the home and away legs in the same year, so one of them is surely going to be hit be lower numbers than you'd expect. Either way you look at it this back to back series is a bit of madness on the part of the ICC. |

Gillo. I always book my accomodation for tours through www.booking.com as for most places you can make the reservation for free and have the option to cancel anytime up to a few days before arrival without being charged. That way i've got my Melbourne & Sydney hotels already booked and can save up to pay for them over the rest of the year but if anything does change and I end up changing my plans or cancelling then I have no financial risk to worry about. |

Arrangements for paying depend entirely on the accommodation owners or agency you book through, so ask or read the conditions before booking. A couple of useful comparison sites are www.hotelscombined.com and www.trivago.co.uk . Using these sites it becomes very noticeable how pricing for the same rooms varies between different agents. Once you've found a price, have a look at the hotel's own website to see whether you can get a better deal by all means, but it's rare that you can. For backpacker hostels try www.hostelworld.com and www.hostelbookers.com . |
