Despite being one up before headingley, I've noticed a totally different feeling on the ground, and haven't seen the change in interest from the kids rushing to try cricket for the first time, which happened in 2005 ... just doesn't seem the same level of interest created this time.

And after this debacle at Headingley it'll take a huge turnaround at the Oval to change things, and the season will be over and soccer will be back in. Disappointing from a cricket playing point of view

but the piss head football fans love it just the same. i did chuckle when i heard a chant of ENGERLAND ENGERLAND, ENGERRRLAND on the tv....ask em about duckworth lewis and they will think you are about some ex england batsman :D

At leas they're there watching it. Call them what you want but many so called "true cricket fans" haven't even gone to watch one day!

A monumentally silly thing to say. Have you not witnessed my skipping over eggshells before?

I'm going to the last weekend of the Ashes, because a friend asked me to. Otherwise I wouldn't be going, like so many others.... and it's far more to do with overinflated ticket prices and crap crowds than to do with quality or quantity of support.

that is all too true i would LOVE to follow England all over the world however i have a job that doesn't allow it and a bank balance that allows it even less!!

that said i go to watch a test match in England at least once a year (and have done for years) and listen to tms all day
so does that make me a true England fan??

no looking down from me. i think its great if people choose to take their holidays in india or lanka to watch the cricket as opposed to the 2 week stint in urope, but i appreciate that people have families etc.
I am not a true cricket fan but i only watch the cricket abroad. In this country i listen to the radio or watch the highlights as I dont want sky and im not paying thru the nose for a ticket. I love the concept of seeing different countries that i would otherwise maybe not visit, and cricket is a great way to kill some time.
This isnt a "who has the best dog" competition. Iwas pinting out that many many people at the ashes imo are footy fans who want to say they have been to the ashes. Sadly I have on ever seen one test in the ashes, melbourne 06, so the footy lot may be able to out brag me in the pub, but like i said i take more from visiting india and the like than i do from a beer filled day at headingley

Can't you be a cricket fan and a footy fan? It seems not. Whenever there is any crowd disturbence it's blamed on, on this forum, footy fans. How can you possibly know? I see this forum having ago at "the new breed of fans" the same way the MCC and more recently the media having ago at the Barmy Army. Double standards, treat people how you want to be treated and all that stuff. And someone has previously posted about the "ENGERLAND ENGERLAND ENGERLAND" chant, what is wrong with that?

cricket has more or less been a stereotypically quiet sport...... i guess the crowds have evolved, but hey lets have a bit more imagination....the ba crowd have some corkers relating to current affairs in the cricket game....the new wave fans just bring the footy chants with em.....gets boring after one round

its a discussion that there is no conclusion to....its all about opinions, and they differ, so ive given my opinion......at least none of the band wagon footy lads will be in the desh.......and the tickets wont be on ebay for ridiculous sums
