Arrogant little f*****. I used to like Colly but if this is really what he thinks now he's tasted some success then drop him. People pay extortionate prices to watch these bastards, and maybe they need help but this is how he likes to repay them. Regardless if it's not proper cricket, if this is his attitude then he should f*** off home. We are playing the convicts after all. I can't stand them! |

Collingwood told the truth. Better than the normal bland press conference, no? And there's not been much of an outcry about the 50 over game being dropped as of next summer, has there? Yeah, if I had a ticket I might feel differently - I'd want the players to perform. Ah, no - wait... he says that he wants the team to do exactly that as it's a "stepping stone" to improving as a team. Where's the problem? |

I think Colly's bang on and being honest. I've been in pubs during Test matches where the screen gets turned over to watch a championship football game. The English public take interest in the Ashes and that's about it (but in part that's due to ECB mis-promotion of their product.) England is obsessed with football. It's about the only way you can generate any form of "patriotism" in this day and age and if you are one of the minority of the English public who actually like cricket and are passionate about it a) you're in a very small minority and b) you're gonna get shafted by the authorities because TV income is what pays their wages. |

I think its a fair comment. Ask the sporting public and the cricket fans what interests them more and im certain there is much more interest in the ashes test series than in a series of 7 odi's. this may not be the case in other countries (SL, India) where one day cricket seems to be unrivalled in popularity by comparison. Personally speaking, i'll stay up all night (in oz) watching England play test cricket but certainly won't do the same for the one dayers. How many fans travel to watch us play test cricket abroad vs touring to watch an odi? Perhaps the limited over format of the game would become more appealing if we were more successful at it? |

It is brainless scheduling from the ECB (again) In 2005 the ODI's came before the Ashes and as such, created a great build up to the main event - remember that great weekend where Bangladesh beat the Aussies on the Saturday and we did them at Bristol on the Sunday? KP played an innings that ensured he played the Ashes ahead of Thorpe. You had the Symonds / Jones incident, the Aussies improving with each game (which is importnat given you need both sides to compete to get a great series) plus the tied final at Lords. The only problem was the greedy ECB then ruined their good work by arranging a further 3 pointless ODI's against the Aussies in the Natwest Challenge. They haven't learnt. Oh, and if the ECB are not going to arrange a 50 over tournament then how can they expect the players to be good at it? |

This year's scheduling was better as a test series shown on satellitle TV (cheers Giles) during the football season had zero chance of capturing the public interest. |

How about ODI's in June, tests in July/August and T20 world cup in September? I suppose the FTP had to be taken into account...... |

I think the issue here is that Collingwood said something out of order that takes the piss out of paying England fans, not people sitting on their arses behind keyboards. Everybody makes mistakes but it takes a man/woman to admit it. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt but from the fringe and how I've seen him change, and other people too, I'm very disappointed. But if it's out of context and he's just stupid then fair enough. Otherwise an apology would've been nice. On the subject of fixtures, the ECB are w****** but surely it makes sense to have a ODI series prior to an international competition? I know I'd like to see us win one and I'm sure you feel the same. Sadly, it's not just about Test cricket anymore. What must have it been like in the 'old days' before pyjamas and India winning the Twenty/20? Bollocks! |
