Despite being a deciding game, and despite being a close game there was, so far as I can see, not one post never mind thread related to the final game of this rubber yesterday. The overall interst in cricket is not in decline, exemplified by the commitment of those planning their SL trips despite losing their flights and cash, but I believe this is further evidence of the decline in T20 interest. It may not be scientific, it may not be entirely representative, but if not one person can be arsed to post about it, then it certainly is'nt a format in the ascendancy, even in its World Cup year. |

barmy army are mainly test fans, not surprising their not interested in 2020. T20 is for kids and people new to cricket generally - don't get many of them posting on here. I am actually more interested in T20 recently now the rankings have come out. If we'd lost 3-0 we'd've lost our number 1 ranking which i'd've been a little miffed about. As is, we're still miles clear, long may it continue. |

Seriously, if England are doing well at any format there is interest even from those of us, like myself, who are mainly pro the test arena. The interest is waning, we all know it, apart from the governing bodies. Another point, if SL attempt to extract every last penny from the forthcoming tour to try and shore up their bankrupt administration, the WC in Autumn will be a bigger financial calamity than the WI's. Result - WC only held in Aus ,India, SA and here, probably alternating between India and the other three. |

Wether you like T/20 or not, not a huge fan myself, you cant argue with the attendances. Dubai was empty for the Tests, fuller for the ODIs and nearly sold out for the T/20. So if you ask PCB or DSC T/20 is the way forward and will continue to be a cash cow for the ICC. |

In addition large exile population who will watchanything if its connected with home, particularly as home tests are'nt allowed/possible. The format is still huge on the su-continent, its the rest of the world where i think people are beginning to tire. Its not the end, just the beginning of it. As with life all things must change to survive, T20 is the same. |

I think this thread is more appropriate for the "General Cricket Chat" section, because it covers issues well beyond the tour of the UAE. Not a fan of T20 myself, but if it comes down to it, I would rather have more T20 internationals than at present, and fewer ODI's. The number of ODI's being played nowadays has got completely ridiculous. As for declining interest in T20, I don't think interest in the format was ever as great as the hype (and money) surrounding it suggested. The novelty has now worn off. IPL audiences are in freefall, the Champions League only attracted big crowds when it was held in SA, and has never attracted big TV audiences. Our own domestic T20 only seems to consistently draw sell-out crowds at a couple of provincial grounds (Chelmsford and Taunton), and was in serious decline elsewhere, especially in the bigger cities, before the number of fixtures was cut back. The Caribbean T20 is watched by three men and a dog, and even in cricket-mad Bangladesh, attendances for the newly launched BPL have reportedly been quite poor. Personally I think they'd have done way better if they hadn't hosted all the matches at Mirpur and Chittagong. T20 is here to stay, but fans both at home and abroad have shown that their appetite for it is not unlimited, which makes the ECB's proposed butchering of the County Championship to make room for a re-expanded T20 tournament seem completely illogical. |

I'm not a fan myself, but T20 does have a place in the Modern game, my trick is to not take to seriously and just enjoy it for what it is, a daft slogathon and a good drink. Funny though, last season i went to my first T20 game at Headingley, barely anyone there, when it started a few years ago it was difficult to get a ticket at all for a night game, and there we were on a Glorious Sunday afternoon, sun shining and cold beer and most of the Western Terrace to myself! So i concur with the dwindling attendances comment, appears to be falling in the IPL too. |
