What about the mention for all those fans who were present in chitters, enduring a lackluster england perfromance, that are not affiliated with the barmy army

I find a good way to avoid affiliating myself with something is not to contribute to its web forum regularly.

Now I come to think of it, there is a valid reason why i feel unhappy at being generally referred to as barmy army....you see, every country i go to i get asked "ah, you are the barmy army", to which i reply "no", cos why would i want to be associated with a bunch of drunk piss heads fighting with each other in The Bar in Kandy in 2007, and a couple of pissed up football fans having a go at brawling in a Chittergong Bar in 2010 over a sodding football match.....both incidents brought shame to travelling england cricket fans......
I really do not have to answer that question surely.....................

I wasnt going to join in on this but just for the record for those that werent present . There wasnt a brawl , just two middle aged men getting over excited during a football match. Agreed it was unsavoury and not necessary however to call it a brawl is both sensationalising and misleading.

Having been lucky enough to see thirty odd Tests during the last twelve years I can honestly say that I have not seen one fight. Whilst I understand that not everyone wants to be associated with the Barmy Army I for one am quite proud of the reaction and reception we get when visiting the various Test playing nations.

Ok ....I've said my piece now lets get back to what its all about , embracing the culture , enjoying meeting new friends and above all supporting the England cricket team , in whatever fashion you choose !!

"Barmy Army" is accepted by all to be an umbrella term, surely.

And by "fight" in Kandy, are we referring to the handbags-at-dawn between two Sinhalese locals I and some others witnessed in the Kandy pavilion when they'd had too much arrack? I dimly remember that being blown out of proportion while we were out there.

Alas Mr Crouch I was referring to 2 white boys in The Pub (not the bar as previously mentioned) in Kandy proper going at it, glasses were smashed etc....
Now whether Asian SR handbags over footy in Chitters was handbags or not, it is bang out of order that two brits can not control themsleves as guests in another country....please tell me that I am wrong, and that this behaviour is ok, acceptable, fine......I think not.......brits an booze cause shame to the rest of us who actually manage to beahve ourselves..........

I left the ground shortly after the game ended, George, as I had things to do, so you are talking utter rubbish.

What is more I have never jumped on the back of anyone else in order to get "fuckin acknowledgement".

I'm not quite sure what I've done to upset you, George, but please get your facts right rather than spouting garbage.

Imagine the sound of a fishing line zipping out in to the mighty river trent, and there being a big bite.........remind you lot of anything...........................

I'll bite! Yes some dickhead like you killing fish for the fun of it in the name of sport. Great analogy. You are soooo clever.....

A bunch of coffin-dodgers sitting quietly scoring in the VIP section or some bare-chested, sun-soaking travellers in the 20T seats/terracing. What exactly has Swanny got to thank either of those two groups for?

The players appreciate vocal and visual support when in foreign climes. Barmy Army, Wavy Navy, Wrong-Uns, blah, blah, blah etc. Cricket supporters making a noise and supporting England.

Isn't that what lifts the team and isn't that what Swanny was referring to?

We are all barmy army in their eyes polo-shirt or not.
