.........an unsung hero. 2 years ago on this very forum we were discussing the virtues or otherwise of Matt's keeping abilities.........anyone got any doubts now??? He hasn't missed a trick behind the stumps, and to top the series off in Sydney with a ton was just f#@$ing brilliant.... he averaged 50+ for the series with the bat, and in the excitement of the win I can't recall if he ended up beating Knotts record of catches for an Ashes series or not??? But I saw something in Matt Prior in Melbourne that just made me think this was the mongrel element we have been missing for so many years.........It was day three and Ponting had not long been at the crease, we were all giving him some stick from the stands......sacked in the morning, you're getting sacked in the morning. Prior turned around and gave us the gee up.....as if to say, keep this up lads....keep the pressure on him. Matty was probably giving some chirp himself at the time and appreciated some assistance from the legions of fans behind him!!! I thought it was a quality moment and just showed to me the awareness, competitiveness and ruthlessness of the man. The likes of Cook, Trotty and Jimmy etc will take the major accolades from this series, and rightly so......but I've found my own personal new hero of the side.......take a bow Matthew Prior |

Sorry mate, couldn't find a you tube clip of it...... Siddle bowled Prior out in our first innings @ Perth........not sure what was said out on the field, but he got a good send off (Ponting got in on the act too) But as Matty walked off, he pointed/gestured outside the ground.........he could well have been inviting him to tea later, but I prefer to think he was saying lets go outside and sort this out. I'm only speculating but it looked a pretty hardcore moment on the telly. |

Matty Prior is a superb Test batsman-wicketkeeper who deserves another run in the one day team. Most improved England player of the past three years bar none, and a top bloke as well. |

Am I right in thinking we are going to use Davies in the One dayers and Keiswetter for the T20's?? That really is very strange, and I agree totally with you Crouchy.......I can think of no reason at all why Prior shouldn't be in the One day side. Let them muck around all they like with the younger players in the T20 side........but we have a world cup to win in a few weeks and surely Prior, right on top of his game atm, is a better bet than Davies??? But having said all that......far be it for me to second guess the selectors. They seem to have a fair idea of whats going on at the moment. |

Davies did OK today V the PM XI but i'm with you on this one..........Prior has the experience over Davies for the ODI's and World Cup and should play. Bell had an absolute blinder but should have been out a few time before he reached his 100. Thankfully, the PM XI are as inept in that department as their senior brethren! He should be in the T20 side as well.....the lads on fire 124 off 102 faced is good batting. |
