I know they're professional cricketers and all that but I just wanted to thank the team and all the back-room staff for a brilliant roller-coaster ride of cricket that has made this extremely long winter bearable.

I can't begin to imagine what it must be like to leave home at the end of last October and be finally heading back this week after just four days break back in the UK.

Because there's been so much unnecessary crap they've had to play it's really diluted their fantastic achievement in winning the Ashes.

I hope David Cameron and the ECB will organise some form of celebration of their achievement before it's forgotten about.

I 100% agree with all your comments Showbiz. Not sure who organises our schedules but they need stringing up by their gonads!! I'll check later but I already know we play far more cricket than any other nation, little wonder we've got players falling over like flies.

I really feel for all the players, how many times has Strauss had to do the "diplomatic" spiel and say fatigue is no excuse for poor performances??.......well it bloody well is!!

The only thing I disagree with is......

The scenes following 2005 are pretty embarrassing in hindsight and I'd hate to see them repeated. As great a result as it was, wining the Ashes and beating the Aussies should not be the ultimate goal and isn't the be all and end all.

Totally agree about the ridiculous schedule the players had to endure, to me it's not Straussy that should be considering his furture but the likes of Hugh Morris et all at ECB who agreed the schedule in the first place thereby putting money above the team perfomances/welfare...fat chance of that tho.

Anyway if I'd been away from my family for 6 month the last thing I'd want is to go visit David Cameron?!...

If in October someone had said "we'll thrash the Convicts in the Ashes, lose a meaningless ODI series, and make the World Cup quarter finals by drawing with India and beating South Africa", you'd take that without hesitation.

England have done fantastically well over the past year or two, and hopefully will be able to rest up now for a demanding summer.
