After spending the last 18 months quietly honking about Cook, I've officially had enough after today and come over all VB. NO MORE Cook excuses, I beg you! 1) He has made ONE meaningful century against top-quality Test opposition in the last three years (Durban). 2) His average in the 2006 Ashes? 27.60. 3) His average in the 2009 Ashes? 24.66. 4) His averages this summer? 19.66 vs. Bangladesh and 10.25 vs. Pakistan. Everyone bangs on about Trott and KP not being in form - bollocks to that, look a bit closer to home and you'll see the above shocking batting statistics. I know even less about batting than I do about bowling, but even I can see his game has not progressed since Galle - leaden footwork and playing with an angled bat against a new ball equals walking wicket. Send him to county cricket and send a message to the rest of the players. No one is indispensable. Up the workers! Cook OUT! * There is zero chance of Cook being dropped, I fear. |

He brought this into his game (see the very purposeful, studied backlift) but it seems to be faltering... I did notice his horribly angled bat coming in from 2nd slip for his last dismissal. Disappointing. fernando Wrote: Me neither, who for v.c tho. Jimmy Anderson. Should have been him in the first place perhaps? |

I don't want to get side-tracked into the vice captaincy issue, as it might cool my ardor to storm Essex and toss Cook out of the England side. He is consistently failing to score runs or build a platform for the batsmen lower down the order. I'd drop him like a shot and give Carberry/Trott/Key/whoever a trial before the summer ends. I reject the notion that you need a vice captain for a stable and orderly transition. Strauss is a superb captain and his transition was about as stable and orderly as a blancmange. Cook OUT! |

Simple fact is Cook's confidence, like his technique, is shot to pieces which makes him liable for special treatment from the Convicts. The Ashes team should be chosen entirely on merit - Strauss and Trott are perfect openers with exactly the right temperaments. |

So (insert replacement here) comes in on an absolute featherbed at The Oval where Boycott's proverbial Grandmother could make runs and what exactly are you learning? Or give your opening batsman of choice for the last few years the chance to make confidence restoring runs on a decent deck. |

I've already said something similar on his facebook page and can't be arsed to re-write on here! |
