Richhufc Wrote: Chuff me there's some rubbish written on this thread. Cook has hundreds abroad in Australia, India, South Africa and Sri Lanka. So that makes bulls*t of the quotes 'never done well against Australia' or 'decent test teams in recent times' (Durban, anyone?) As for the KP / Morgan comment. What a load of rubbish. Nothing more to add. It was a great ton in Durban mate, but other than his last ton against quality Test opposition was Galle 2007. Agree to disagree! |

He is out of form. That Pietersen - Morgan comment was quite obsurded James Anderson 5 wickets @ 82.60 in Australia, shall we leave him at home? Drop Cook because he averages 26.81 against Australia, unforgiveable that. Move Trott up the order to open and slot Ian Bell into the middle order. Ian Bell who averages 25.68 against Australia! If any test nation in the last 20 years disregarded a player because he had an ordinary record against the Aussies you'd barely fill a Rest of the World XI let alone one for each country! Huey, that is a good point re. Jimmy - and Bell's average against Australia is indeed no better than Cook. I suspect Strauss is copying the Vaughan model of Consistency Come What May and he wants the Brisbane XI to be as similar as his Oval XI bar Flintoff and Harmison. Where we disagree is on the remainder of the summer - I strongly believe that someone other than Cook should open for the last two Tests against Pakistan. It's a summer for experimentation against two of the weakest Test playing nations. Why is Cook untouchable? Drop him and give him a kick up the arse, and if he makes runs in county cricket then put him on the plane to Oz. |

The problem is that Cook doesn't look like getting runs at the moment and his technical problems have obviously affected his confidence; his last dismissal was pretty abject for an opening batsman. Although saying that there is no way you could say that the Pakistan bowling attack is one of the worst in the world (their batting and fielding yes, but not their bowling), I'd actually say before Gul got injured that it was up there with the best. Not sure what all that Pietersen Morgan talk was about either?! |

I agree that Cook shouldn't be in the XI, but surely he has to be on the plane. |

It was a classic Page 657 of the year 2000 Wisden Almanack if anyone's wondering The best bit was Wisden getting all snotty about it saying you'd think he'd want to be a better bowler and have a bigger todger to start playing pranks like that! Perhaps Wisden should have looked more towards their team of proof readers! Granted he wasn't the best bowler but he was in our championship winning side of 1998, not too many players have a county championship winners medal do they! |
