He is consistently failing to score runs or build a platform for the batsmen lower down the order. I'd drop him like a shot and give Carberry/Trott/Key/whoever a trial before the summer ends. I reject the notion that you need a vice captain for a stable and orderly transition. Strauss is a superb captain and his transition was about as stable and orderly as a blancmange. Cook OUT! Still want to give Carberry/Trott/Key a shot Crouchy? Yes. Yes, I do. I would have opened with Carberry or maybe Trott for this Test and the next. It's supposed to be a summer of experimentation, I'd quite like to know who is the next opener in line. Nobody seems to know. Cook did very, very well today but one century does not indicate good form, just as a single failure does not indicate a lack of form. Let's see how he does in the next Test before we get overly-excited, shall we? |

Oh happy days. nananananananana Ali Ali Cook Ali Cook Ali Ali Cook..... Not saying he is now the best batsman in the world or anything. But surely there was never any doubt that he should at least be given The Oval and Lords to get runs. And there was never any doubt in my mind that he should also start in Brisbane. Bring along another opener to Oz by all means as competition, but to say Cook should have been dropped now was far too premature. All just my opinion mind.... One swallow does not a summer make! |

Nobody is saying that. But your COOK OUT over the top rubbish opens yourself up for mocking. 13 test hundreds including tons overseas in India, Australia, South Africa and Sri lanka all show he isn't a 'one swallow' player. |

If you look at the ICC rankings, KP is the only batsman in the top 20. Cook is the 6th best English batsman at No 33, with Trott and Morgan still building up their points. Logic suggests that you cut from the bottom, so it should be Cook out first. |

Heres hoping that before lunch we can add "Yousef OUT" to this thread.... I put a rather patriotic tenner on England to win yesterday at the height of our woes... relying on the Pakistani self-destruct button coming out today... not feeling so confident now though, I fancied us to set them 200. |

Plenty of people seem to be saying in an equally over the top way that one innings means that we forget a run of poor form that has lasted all summer and arguably much longer than that. Mocking? Pffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffft. As I said in Barnsley a few weeks ago and at the start of this thread in teeny tiny text, Cook won't be dropped no matter how bad his run of form is - because everyone in the England setup thinks he's great. My point is that Cook's position in the team has been guaranteed for too long, while the media bleat on about Trott OUT and KP OUT and <insert-name-here>OUT. No doubt Morgan will start getting it after this match, and Bell must be pleased! By doing nothing, he looks a better batsman doesn't he? Anyway, let's close this off by saying that we all hope Cook kicks on from here, gets another ton in the final Test and finally scores some big runs against Australia this winter. That's what is important here, no? |
