Not dropped as such, quite a lot of county players play some club cricket when deemed appropriate. |

In this instance, I remember reading that he signed for Bexhill because he wanted to play for a club which would let him bat in the top 3! This is typical of a man who works tirelessly even at the parts of his game where he is notoriously weak. Meanwhile his bowling is little-by-little starting to look really good again at last. He's started winning matches for Sussex now, and I have no doubt whatsoever that he will prove to be an excellent signing for them. He is already a very strong candidate for a place on the plane to Australia as our second spinner, and whether he's selected or not, I'm sure it won't be long before he's back in his rightful place as part of the England set-up once again. I know there were lots of people who stopped believing in him when he lost his form, but I was not one of them. |

Depends how much cricket the player is playing at the time I guess. I don't know much about other leagues around the country but pretty much the entire Leics CCC playing staff (except Nixon, Hoggard and Henderson) are attached to local clubs. The side that playing Hampshire on TV last week have all played in our Premier League this season at some stage. But we haven't got any contracted players obviously. |

Yeah that would make sense Huey. I think Monty's situation is a kind of unusual fall from grace... bearing in mind his age and the speed at which he initially gathered Test wickets, etc. It's a shame. |

Cook is the 6th best English batsman at No 33, with Trott and Morgan still building up their points. Logic suggests that you cut from the bottom, so it should be Cook out first. I would fathom in at least ten other factors before even looking at the ICC rankings. Remember, they are the same idiots that 'forgot' to put Swann on the player of the year shortlist! Is the retired Shane Bond still 3rd in the test bowler rankings by the way? And what would those 10 factors be? I don't think our friends at the ICC have any input into the batting rankings. Its just a long term weighted average based on how many runs you score, adjusted to reflect the quality of the bowling and difficulty of the pitch. Don't understand your comment about Bond. Players are removed from the list once they retire, so in the current ratings ( http://www.reliancemobileiccrankings.com/ ) Mohammad Asif is No 3 ranked bowler. Bond is nowhere to be seen. |

I'm not sure how they work it.......Has Nitini officially retired or is he just not getting picked anymore??? Because according to the ICC he is the 10th best bowler in the world right now!!!. Stuart Clark stayed in the top 10 for ages too although his name has now been removed. I think maybe the calculations take into account too long a period?? When you look through the list there is some very strange names that shouldn't be there........Monty Panesar and Harmy in the top 40???? |
