I think the point is that the only visa available to tourists pre 2012 are long stay, cost £38. The free version is applied to your passport on arrival until 31 Dec. In short, a good idea but not possible I think. Local business news items still referring to visa cost reduction as possible conjecture, just be aware. |

Appreciate it's only a small saving (especially since they announced the reduction in fees) but if you're on a tight budget and paying for two it could have potentially saved c£65 (two or three nights accommodation in SL). I'll still give it a go on the basis that it shouldn't be a problem to pay for one in the new year if it doesn't work out. Thanks for your comments. |

It now appears the SL authorities are saying that anyone who books up before December 31 won't have to do the online thing and can still get a free on-arrival Visa covering them until March 31. Or at least that's my reading of it. I've emailed the SL High Commission asking for confirmation of this, but am not holding my breath. If indeed this is the case then it's good for those of us who are only doing the Galle Test, but not so clever for those doing Colombo or both. www.immigration.gov.lk/web/index.php?op ... ws&lang=en www.sundaytimes.lk/index.php?option=com ... Please note that the visa issued on arrival will be okay for 30 days in SL so providing you're getting there before the 31 March, it should cover you for the Colombo test as well. One question though - are they saying you do not need to complete the online ETA thing i.e. you just bowl up in SL prior to 31 March (providing you have booked you trip before 31 December) and they issue a visa gratis? |
