Thanks Lads Looks like a stop over is the best bet plenty of hotels quite like the look of the guest houses could be a bit of an experience just to see how the people live you dont really get that experience in the Colombo Hilton. Thanks Mark |

Hi Guys, I own a bar in Kandy. If you are looking for a homestay experience the the place I used to stay when I traveled here I can highly recommend at less than 3000 rupees a night. Actually it is 2000 but not sure if he will put prices up for WC. The place is called Glen Guesthouse. Nature Walk is another nice place. I know lots of places in kandy. Thilanka hotel is next to my pub. Regards Michael |

Stay in Kandy. Dont bank on getting the train, they are fully booked most of the time. Kandy is a very pleasant place, try and stay near to the lake. Sacred tooth temple is worth a visit. Someone above said that travel in SL takes longer than you think, I couldnt agree more. Cheap (and scary) bus journeys, but getting in and out of colombo can be a nightmare. Enjoy Kandy |

It just means possibly having to stand for some or all of the journey. Reservation is compulsory on some trains, so check the timetable, but it's not necessary on all of them. |

If there are no trains (and there aren't many), with your back to the station walk right down the side streets 500m or so and you find the bus station, aircon bus to Kandy 3 hours plus whatever traffic you find on route R290. |
