I wouldn't know about swanky joints like that, but about a quid a bottle in the places I frequent in the cricket grounds it was 100rs I think (50p ish) for a cup of beer, which I think was about half a pint, bit less maybe |

Last March I found the Cricketers club, also one of the most expensive places in Colombo. Cheers (in Cinnamon Grand) and The Inn on the Green have a happy hour where prices are literally half price which makes them quite affordable. If you really want to drink cheap in Colombo, you have to go where the locals go. There are a couple of bars in Slave Island, The Castle and The Nipon, where you can get a pint for around a pound. They are extremely basic though (Sydney Hotel style), so don't expect to be sitting in any sort of comfort - great fun though. |

Don't just stick to expat/tourist haunts, if you want to get more from your trip, get out there and explore. Something worth experiencing are the arrack bars tucked away down the back streets of Kandy. I wouldn't recommend going there on your own though, at least not until you've found somewhere where you feel comfortable. Although I haven't experienced any major problems myself, I doubt those heavy duty metal grilles separating the bar staff from the punters are there for decoration! |

Hi Guys, My name is Michael and I am a brit that owns a bar in Kandy. We have a happy hour everyday from 5pm to 6pm.We have the best sunset in Kandy! We sell tall bottles of Lion beer for 230 rupees(no hidden charges) which is just over 1 pound a bottle during 5pm and 6pm. Our normal price right now and will stay the price for the WC will be 385rupees R(no hidden charges) around 1.90 pound depending on exchange rate at time. Carlsberg is 440 rupees , Eirdinger 605, Benediktiner German wheat beer 605 (very nice) Corona right now is 495 but beer company wants to do special buy 2 get one free during WC but not confirmed yet but soon will be. www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g ... vince.html Tuk Tuks know us as Bamboo Garden as it was a Chinese restaurant before and we still sell Chinese food aswell as western and can do Sri Lankan curry but need to pre order as takes one hour to prepare minimum 4 people. As what one person mentioned there are cheap local bars in the back streets of Kandy that sell beers around 200 rupees. But you get what you pay for and personally not really great places to enjoy. But by all means worth checking out one time to experience Sri lankan drinking culture! In Colombo, A good place that also has a happy hour is a place called "In on the Green" which is part of the Galle face hotel. They have great accoustic artists in the evening and the place is run by another Brit called Darren. I hope I have answered some questions and hope to see you soon. Regards Michael |

Hi, can someone please let me know what the price of beer, soft drink, water, food etc is at the T20 world cup match venues? I'm asking specifically for this T20 world cup as prices are set by ICC & its sponsors and I'm not asking about prices paid on previous tours for matches run by SL cricket. Thanks in advance. |
