Hey everyone, Very excited here, heading out next week. Just a quick question about currency. Is it best to get it before I fly out or when you get there? I was planning on using ATMs out there. Any advice or info will be most welcome. |

You can change your pounds at the airport where there are lots of banks offering very good exchange rates, as soon as you have collected your baggage. Yes, you can also use ATM's but remember your UK bank will apply a nominal charge, and you are at their mercy as to what exchange rate you get. I will be taking cash and change it in SL. I'll be going to Galle, where there is an extremely good money changer in a jewellry shop, just down from the Sydney hotel, who gives even better rates than the banks. |

The rupee has currently hit 214 (commercial rate) ; that is higher than in March, and the highest in all my trips to SL. You should be looking to get 205ish at the banks, and even more with the money changers. Best rate in UK is 190 (Exchange.com), so WAIT until you are in SL. |

if you do use the atm's in Sri Lanka they dispense your money first and then your card afterwards so don't forget to pickup your card, another option is to pick up a travel card from a post office and load it up with money that way it saves carrying a lot of cash with you. |

Think we hit the 220 mark in 2007,then it dipped slightly to around 215. |
