Change that, spin-bowler friendly wicket. One down straight after the drinks break, 50 on the board though. This will test the confidence and technique of our top order later |

Two down, wicket for Monty after Swann had the first one ... important for confidence that we win day 1 |

104/4, Broad has two. Come on England , I don't have too much faith in this England side getting big scores no matter how good the pitch is against this attack in these conditions, so I hope we can go on from here and have them all out for well under 300, hopefully under 250. We have 9 tests away to Pak, SL and India this year, having not played any of them away for 3 years. Not surprising we're not used to the conditions, hopefully if we can get out of this series with a draw (win would be great of course) then we'll have learned a lot in the process and the batsmen will have adapted and they'd be in a good position to win vs a weaker SL team. then by the time we play India in 10 months time we'd be favourites. Gonna be a great series either way, surely there top 5 are gonna be all out for vengeance and a last hurrah. Laxman may be gone by then mind. |

204/5 78.6 Swann to Asad Shafiq, OUT, 87.1 kph, big sweep attempted and given out lbw. He's gone upstairs but umpires call on review so Shafiq has to go. It was a horrible heave across the line and hit him on the back leg going on to hit the stumps. Shafiq has thrown it away there, got a bit carried away Asad Shafiq lbw b Swann 58 (126b 7x4 1x6) SR: 46.03 |

85.6 Broad to Adnan Akmal, OUT, that was given out as an lbw, strangely though. There appeared to be an inside edge onto the pads which lobbed straight to Prior, Adnan got forward to defend, the ball was bang in line with the stumps, I think Hot Spot showed a faint edge, need to see another replay of that, sorry Adnan Akmal lbw b Broad 9 (26b 2x4 0x6) SR: 34.61 4 dropped catches!!! a shame we're looking v.dangerous with the new ball. |

A first day turner !!! Wonder how that happened ? Think 300 will be a good score on this UNLESS we get an exceptional start. One thing is for sure, its a result pitch. Incidentally, how nice to see 94 overs in a day, shows it can be done. |

In my lifetime test matches regularly achieved 100+ overs a day, not solely due to spinners in tandem, but because that was the norm. The late 60's and 70's put paid to that. It became custom and practise and then officially sanctioned, how long before they argue for another cut ? Remember its us that gets short changed, particularly when they get to the extended deadline and STILL have'nt bowled 90. More Dhoni rulings, sooner, is the answer. Rant over ................sorry |
