hello fellow cricket lovers

i understand that there are people who are steering clear of this tour, but who is actually going, and what is the general gist of whats going on?

i reckon to be landing in india AROUND the fifth, and seeing where the trains take me!

any tips on accommodation whilst there?

cheers

I would definetly get some Neil.

The real answer mate depends on your 'experience' of India, ie whether you have been before and your expectations.
In any case I would look into the 'historic' sections concerning previous India tours. There is an abundance of extremely useful advice from lots of experienced Indian devotees.
The reason most of those devotees are going awol are mainly due to the BCCI and not India/Indians themselves.
Enjoy it.

I'm not going myself due to other commitments, and most of us on here don't tend to bother with ODI's that much anyway. I did go to the World Cup though, and the positive memories from that trip certainly outweigh the negative ones, in spite of the many hassles that have been outlined elsewhere. The atmosphere in Bangalore when we played India was awesome, and I got a good insight into why the small but intrepid crew who do regularly watch the ODI's in that part of the world go to all the trouble of doing it!

As far as those trains go, book them as far ahead as possible through Cleartrip. You can always cancel them and get nearly all your money back if your plans change. There are ways of booking trains at short notice (through Tatkal and tourist quotas), but don't rely on these.

Accommodationwise, if you're travelling on a fairly tight budget, when in Calcutta you can do a lot, lot worse than the Hotel Aafreen. There are several similarly named places, some good, some not so good, but this is the one on Nawab Abdul Rahman St. It's popular though, so phone or e-mail ahead.

Giving it a little bit of thought at the moment, more the fact that I haven't got an escape from this place till March next year.

Also we went to the World Cup but stayed in Kolkata because of the venue change and watch the India game in a bar. The attraction would be visiting Eden Gardens twice in a short time.

If cheap flights pop up, I may take it up and head to Sudder Street for some cheap digs and stuff.

Certainly won't make any defo plans till closer since I've been screwed enough times with date and venue changes.

See ya there hopefully.
