 does anyone know if eden gardens is a dry ground and what is the best way to get tickets for a game (given how disorganised the BCCI are?

 Is Eden Gardens an international cricket ground where India play England, is probably the more pertinent question

 We were there in March (when the ODI V India was cancelled) and it was'nt dry then.
In fact the painters only stopped to pose for a picture for us.

 Unless you can get a ticket in hospitality you have no chance of getting a beer in an Indian cricket ground :cry:

Were you in Mohali on our last two visits? There was certainly beer there. Not much good, admittedly, but it was available.

 During the World Cup in March, we attended the India, Ireland & SA games.

Both the India game in Bangalore and the SA game in Chennai were dry - (only Pepsi, Fanta & water available) however we purchased hospitality tickets for the Ireland games, which cost around £30 which included food and free bar (albeit had to drink the beer/spirits etc behind the glass window and couldnt take into the seats.)

My mate had his "vodka flavoured" water ;) confiscated as well.

From memory, both the Delhi & Goa ODI's in 2006 were also dry.

 After visiting many many indian cricket grounds there is only mohali that has ever sold beer, mainly due it it being in the punjab, and the punjadis being a little more liberal.
You can try and smuggle beer/spirits in, but if caught, you may get a slap. I witnessed this at the WC in Chennai.
As for tickets, well, my suggestion would be a) get to the city/ground days and days before the game and queue up with the locals at one of the few outlets (normally banks) - This is not really an option because you will be watching other matches.
b) go to the ground a couple of hours before the match and pick up tout tickets. Do not pay stupid money for these as it is unneccessary. There will be lots and lots of tickets availble (the only exception I have seen was the WC England v India match).
There may be other methods of getting your hands on a ticket renging from on line sales at hugely inflated prices. Be under no illusion, One Day cricket in india is ridiculously popular, and it isnt as simple as attending a footy match over here. You cant just turn up on the day and get a last minute ticket from the ticket office.
Speak to other england fans when you are out there and I am sure you will have no problem.

Also, hide the camera...i had mine taken off me by security......
