I'd personally pay online once you've sent it off special delivery. I included a special delivery pre-paid envelope for returning my passport and I guess you'll do the same. Some people on here insist on either going in-person or sending someone to do it for them rather than apply by post but go for what you are comfortable with. See you in the black hole....

Only doing Calcutta and flying out on the Sunday before the Test. A couple of days soaking up the West Bengal rays by the lovely banks of the charming Hooghly river...alternatively 48 hours holded-up in a collection of windowless, pitch-black, back-street boozers with a dopping of demented and delinquent, barmy army wrong uns.

Sounds delightful! We're not getting there until the Monday night and staying on the hhi, staying on a couple of days after the test. Where are you planning on sitting, I see block b has sold out?

Where you staying mate? We'll have to catch up for some demented & delinquent behaviour. I'm in a place called Bawa Walson on Sudder Street.

As long as you apply now you should be OK.

Read the instructions on the VFS website very carefully indeed and follow them to the letter. It's worth ploughing through the 8 pages of this thread too because most potential pitfalls should be covered by now.

Particularly easy to overlook is the size of the photos they ask for, which are not standard UK passport size. Thankfully most automatic photo booths now do them in the necessary size for a couple of quid extra. If you're still really confused an agent will handle it for you, but obviously they'll charge for their services.

Use an agent to get your visa mate, you'll get it within a week. The one I used charged £60 & if you do it yourself it's £42 + P&P & they take all the potential hassle away.
Don't know where you're based but the agent I used was based in West Brom, can put you in touch if that's any good. Otherwise as long as there is an Indian community near you, there'll be an Indian travel agent sorting visas for people.

Has anyone had any problems in terms of time getting their visa sorted. Bit concerned that many seem to have got their passports back within a week and mine is apparently still at the High Commission for "further assessment", 8 days after sending it off. Supposed to be doing Kolkata but starting to get a bit edgy... Any reassurance would be much appreciated!

In practice it's not unknown for postal applications to take a couple of weeks. There were certainly some who went for the World Cup whose applications took that long. They reckon they normally process postal applications within 10 days, but "this does not include the period they are in transit to and from the High Commission or the Consulate General."

Sounds like you're still within that time frame at the moment.
