Just seen a website.... Scotts visa, they charge a fifty quid fee, but can apparently get a visa in 48 hours. I can ring them after ten am today? Is there any reason not to trust them? I dont mind paying a bit extra within reason to get it all sorted asap. Are there any common reasons for refusal? I do, for my sins, have a crimnal record from 2005, could that be a problem?

A quick google didn't turn up anything alarming. One reviewer said he was happy with the speed of service but didn't like their customer service because the person he was dealing with had to answer the phone a couple of times while he was in there, and there were people hanging around outside, so he was only giving them 3 stars because of that! I call that excessively fussy myself. The other couple of mentions I found were entirely positive.

Re. your criminal record, I can't remember whether there are any questions of that nature on the form, but you should mention it to the agent (assuming you use one) just in case.

Let us know how you get on.

Well i sent everything off before thepost office closed at 12.30pm this morning. Luckily the trainstation photo booth had 50mm photos as an option. My one worry is that there was some kind of minor defect with the photo that i didnt notice unril i printed it, like there was some kind of light from somewhere shining on my chin that might cause alarm with an over zealous indian high office clerk.

Phone them early this week, if its a prob they will return the app and you're shafted. At least if you phone and they advise its rejected they may let you send the new pics.

Nothing's actually compulsory as far as I know, but I try and keep up to date.

Re. jabs you're supposed to get them a few weeks before going, but better late than never. Check with a travel clinic or your doctor's surgery for up-to-date advice, because it's constantly changing. One of our number went down with typhoid on a recent tour of India, so the risk of that is certainly very real. He'd had a jab a few years previously, but it's one of those that needs boosting every so often.

Re. antimalarials, some take them, some don't. Whether I take them depends on where I'm going and whether I'm allowed to take them with whatever meds I'm on at the time. Here's a malaria risk map for India:

Thanks for advice, wentto doctors this morning and filled in a form and have been told to ring them in a couple of days. I guess the absolute earliest I Could get any jabs would be Friday for a next Weds departure. Well see, I never even considered jabs until my Mum, bless her, started getting all concerned. Was surprised to see that they arevirtually all free.

Well I've just had the call from the visa people - the passport has arrived with visa sorted, it's gonna cost about £110 including special delivery return postage but that is ok, I'll take that for such a quick turnaround. Can now see returns with virgin, direct for just under £700. Plus Mumbai to Nagpur for about £50, arriving Nagpur about 8am, hopfoot it to the ground in time for the first session all being well, dunno about tickets yet mind.

Visa sorted and returns to mumbai sorted, and flight mumbai to nagpur sorted, i arrive nagpur at 8am, should be perfect to make the first session, hope tickets arent too hard to come by. See you all there, my first tour after eight years of threatening to do so, not even Steve Ackerman can stop me now.

Sorry Bish lad but you really do have a lot to learn about tempting providence and India.
Bringing S.A. into the equation, oh dear.

Safe journey and enjoy it.
