Been calling around some properties and It seems the "main stream" hotels have been blocked booked by tour operators/Wholesalers or onto it tourist. Not to say they will not release rooms when the allocations given to these companies are returned as they can't be sold. The two Mercure Properties and the Two Scenic Properties are Full, the Kingsgate and Quest are also sold out Also spoke to a few other properties which have ahd enquires for 50 rooms + again i'm guessing the Tour operators are trying to get a hold of anything they can as i believe they expect this tour to be alot larger than passes NZ tours. There are plenty of Other motel/hotels that are available from calling round a couple are below but there are many more in the AA accommodation guide or Jason's Guide. The Palms Motel has 2 units left 1 Two bed at $220.00 for 2 people plus $20.0 per extra adult and 1 one bedroom unit at $210.00 George Street Hotel 1 bedroom $120.00 a night or 525.00 weekly rate 2 Bedroom $185.00 a night or 575.00 weekly rate 315 EURO Studio 170 per night 1 Bedroom $200.00 per night Hope this helps |

There's loads of motels in Dunedin, I was there for the England v Argentina game at the Rugby World Cup, we stopped at a motel called Amross Motel on George St, North Dunedin, an easy 5/10 minute walk to the Octagon (where there's a few bars) but we weren't that impressed with the place!! We had 4 in the room, so 2 ended up on a sofa bed, which was arguably the most uncomfortable thing i've lay on (having spent 7 years in the navy, I can assure you that is some mean feat There was loads of motels all along George St though, so I can't see accommodation being a problem for the lower end of the budget scale!!! I also noticed one of them Living Space places in Dunedin, it's like the halfway point between a hostel and a hotel, we stopped at the one in Invercargill for the Scotland v Georgia game and were quite impressed, good value!!! http://dud.livingspace.net/contact.php Another place we considered before opting with Amross was the Dunedin Holiday Park, which is further out, on some beach, but seems to have plenty of accommodation at a reasonable price http://www.dunedinholidaypark.co.nz/ If anyone's going to Queenstown I can recommend 2 great places at either end of the budget scale, for a special treat one night we stopped at a place called The Rees, which is a bit out of town, towards the airport, next to a lake. We had a lake view room which was wonderful, but a bit pricey... http://www.therees.co.nz/ The other place we stopped in Queenstown was a motel called Amity Lodge, right in the heart of the town, was a real gem, the rooms were great and the couple who ran it were a laugh!!!! http://www.amitylodge.co.nz/ Sadly, it's looking likely i'll have to miss Dunedin this time, should be doing Wellington and was looking at a quick fly in and out of Auckland for the weekend but that's not looking very likely with the flights etc... Hope this is of help!!! |

Hope this is of help!!! 4 in a room. That sound very cosy! Accommodation in Dunedin appears to be split into 2 categories, hotels and motels. Lots of the hotels are already showing as full, but most of the motels have vacancies (although some are filling up). I've booked a motel on George street. As Trigger said during the Jolly boys outing to Margate, they don't know I haven't got a car. |

As I assume everyone reading this will be going to this test I wanted to give a heads up about the location of the Airport to the town. Bloody miles away! I went down for the RWC last year and the airport is about 30km out of the town. They sometimes have a shuttle bus running for $20 but this was not running when I was there cabs are about $80 or if you want to stick your thumb out. South Islanders are amazing people it took a friend and I less than 10 seconds to be offered lifts from 2 different people at no charge. |

We've used the BBH backpackers before and they've been pretty good. http://www.bbh.co.nz/ You can get a BBH card for NZ$50 (about £25) that gives you a discount of $3 per night off the accommodation. It also gives you discounts off other things (like the Interislander ferry for example) and has a $20 of payphone credit so you should be able to make your money back. |

YHA have a similar card system which I had forgotten about. Last year they had a deal to join for free and get first night accom for free. It was advertised on the ski lifts, the season is about to start agian so I shall keep my eyes pealed to see if they do the same and I shall share. When are people arriving to Dunedin? I have just booked my flights down from Auckland arriving 9pm the night of Wed 13 and leaving back to Auckland 8.50pm on the Sunday |
