The great thing about New Zealand is that it is literally the other side of the world. As a consequence all routes lead directly to your destination. Go via Rio, Rangoon or Russia it doesn't make any difference; you're always headed in the right direction. As a consequence there are lots of airlines to choose between (which isn't good if you are terminally indecisive like me). Last year I flew to Singapore with Emirates and they were top notch. Was hoping to use them again but they were too expensive. I'm not in favour of waiting for a seat sale so decided to go with Malaysia airlines. £870 return to Auckland, with a stop over in KUL on the way home (Emirates were £300 more without the stop). So the plan is; 1) Arrive AKL at 00:05 on 2nd March, airport hotel and then the £65 Jetstar services to Queenstown (arrives 13:50). 2) Bus to Dunedin on 5th 3) 11th - Was thinking of going overland to Wellington, but time is tight. Will probably end up sampling the delights of Mount Cook Airlines (masquerading as air New Zealand). 4) 19th to 22nd - drive to Akl via Rotorua 5) 22nd return flight to KUL for 6 day stopover. Looking for a cheap Air Asia flight to somewhere with a nice beach. Thought about doing all 3 tests but decided on the stopover instead. |

Was trying the best place to put this info and thought that this is as good as anywhere else. If you are looking at traveling by car in NZ keep an eye on the www.transfercar.co.nz it gives you the oppotunity to move smaller camper vams and cars around the country for free. I have had a look today and there are 13 from Christchurch - Auckland and 7 from Queenstown - Auckland. these give you 4-6 days to drive them up and include the cost of the ferry. All you pay for is petrol. Not sure how far in advance they advertise them tho. |

With regard to accom look on bookabach.co.nz I have booked a house not far from town that a bunch of us from here aus uk etc are all going to be staying in and will work out much cheaper that hotel and backpackers. with respect to the transfer car I think it is more a last minute thing. It depends on where people drop their hire cars. The concept is that people here a car then drop it off else where and the hire companies let people take them back to the origin for free to remove the need for them to hire transporter trucks or send via boat. |

I understand supply and demand but never the less ! Still plenty of motels in Dunedin showing as available at reasonable prices. Flights prices are going up though. I booked 10 days ago at £870, now there is nothing below £1000. |

That was with Emirates from Manc- Dub,short stop off in Brisbane then to Auck. There was no way i was going anywhere near Heathrow. Last 2 occasions i stopped off there on the way back,i'd no luggage when i got back to Manc. |
