Just booked the Dunedin to Wellington flight and nearly fell for the Airnewzealand con. All the main booking sites (Kayak, Sky scanner etc) only offer the flexi plus seats at about $280nz one way. This is the same price as airnewzealand.co.uk. However if you try grabaseat (grabaseat.co.nz/) or airnewzealand.co.nz you get acces to the cheap seats starting at $112nz. |

Unfortunately already booked Auckland to Wellington. Just booked the return for £45 though. Result |

Do domestic flights go up in price as date comes nearer, as per UK lo-cost airlines ? |

I've always found that domestic Aussie fares can often be had relatively cheap on the day/close in to departure, similar rates as those booked well in advance. Qantas do not have a tendency to remove all discounted fares and sell only full fares on the day of travel, unlike mainline European carriers, for example. Just looking at domestic NZ flights departing tomorrow, many can be had for sub £50 on some routes. Try getting a BA Manchester to London flight for less than a ton on the day! Air NZ do tend to be on the pricey side, however. Have a play about with http://www.skyscanner.com to get a feel. Of course, there will be increased demand for certain routes nearer the time so once cannot be sure how the airlines revenue management will take to that situation. |
