Any non-NZ virgins got any tips for days out from Auckland Any must do's? Companies to use/avoid? Half day trip to Waiheke Island vineyards looks good. Is £60 a decent price? Would a day trip to 90 Mile Beach be doable? |

As a JAFA* myself, I'd say a trip to Waiheke on a sunny day is well worth it. You can either do one of the pre-set winery tours or make your own way round on taxi or bus....or just bring your togs and laze on the beach. As for 90 mile beach, I'd say it's just about do-able in a day - but I don't know why you'd want to! There are some cracking beaches a hell of a lot closer! Try Piha & other West Coast beaches if you like big surf (v. dangerous though) - or just head to Mission Bay (15 min bus from CBD) where you can have a dip and be 30 seconds from the pub. As for other activities around Auckland, I'd say Fishing, Golf, Surfing, Mountain Biking (Woodhill), Bungee off the Harbour Bridge, White Water Rafting (Waitomo). Or just go to the pub (various - although expeck to pay NZ $8+ for a pint!) Enjoy - it's a cracking place.... *Just Another F-ing Aucklander |

Sounds like a good day out to me. 90 mile beach is a bit far for a day and cant see any coach trips that go up there which means hiring a car and as most companies only do 3 day min hire it gets a bit expensive. You can go down to hobbiton on a day trip or a 1 day trip to Coromandal but you are looking at more 125gbp for these trips |

Agree with every things said above, I am also a JAFA. Coromandel is moer of a 2 day trip one day you would only get to see the near side and as beautiful as the Thames Coromandel road is the best parts are the other side like cathedral cove and hot water beach, worth a trip though if youfit it in. The zoo here is one of the better ones as well if that is your thing, pop up to the top of the sky tower and have a cuppa in the observatory. Simple trip to the North to Takapuna or devenport would also be a nice afternoon out of auckland Takapuna has a nice beach and you get a ferry to Devenport from the city. May devonport in teh morning seeing the historcal things on the northern head and then bus to Takapuna in the afternoon. keep an eye on grabone.co.nz and Groupon.co.nz for some cheaper deals. there are plenty of other similar sites out there too. |
