Hello one and all,

I intend to travel to Melbourne for the Boxing Day test match and am looking for tips/advice on what to do as I am a tour virgin!

I don't need accommodation as my Mrs' old man lives in Melbourne so I can crash there and then come and meet my other mate who is conveniently in Melbourne at the same time.

The idea is we go to all 5 days, get drunk, sit with the Barmy Army and shout at Mitchell Johnson who will inexplicably be selected as a strike bowler for the duration.

The sitting with the Barmy Army is quite key as this is part of the experience really and as much fun as it was sitting next to the "Fanatics" on Day 5 in Cardiff last home Ashes watching Jimmy and Monty's heroics the singing and camararderie is what we are looking for?

Tips on getting tickets in right area/flight tips/booze smuggling etc etc would be greatly appreciate.

Much love and thanks in advance
Ryan

Hi Ryan,

Keep an eye on the progress of this thread re ticket availability in the Barmy Army areas www.barmyarmy.com/forum_new/index.php?v ... =36&t=7502

For the last 2 tours CA has only made tickets available in theses areas to official tour groups, so the only way to get a seat there is to buy a tour package through an official operator (Barmy Army, Gullivers etc)

Gilo has made a request to CA to revise this policy in order to allow England fans the opportunity to congregate together much easier in the grounds. As yet we haven't received an answer from Cricket Australia.

However, if this doesn't work out how we all hope the MCG is not so bad if you want to get in on the crack. At the back of every section in the ground there is a (albeit small) terraced section. Ditch your allocated seat and wander around to the back of the Barmy Army stand and join in the fun!!!

Quality, decided to go to Sydney test too now and thanks very much for your advice... I'll definitely keep an eye on the thread.

Anybody got tips on what to do with the other half? Bearing in mind she asked what the sticks coming out of the ground were when she came to watch me play I can't see her sitting though 10 days of test cricket. Although thinking about it this may not be as bad as that with Aus current batting line up!

She will have my mates Mrs who she has never met. All ideas welcome (For clever dicks.... Ideas involving the use of these 2 girls between the hours of 11-630pm will be judged on ability to give a seat within Barmy Army area and quantity of beers in exchange!)

My advice would be to try your hardest to get a ticket for you and your missus. Tickets in Oz are pretty reasonably priced compared to England and the chances are that with the atosphere, banter, singing, booze and sun she will love it.

My missus had never seen a cricket match before - then i took her to a Test in Barbados which had all the above ingredients. She now loves it.

At the very worst she's spending a day sunbathing and drinking with her dream man (!!)

At the very best, she'll love it and want to travel the world on cricket tours

MCG tickets are easy to get hold of. Sydney less so. So channel your efforts into getting your tickets sorted and take it from there (oh, and save up a ton of cash between now and then too)

Awesome thanks,

That's the thing, she has seen a cricket match before! I appreciate that Cornwall County Division 4 East isn't The Ashes but you get an inkling!

I will buy all the tickets/get her old man to buy them out there and then work it out from there. Hopefully we can find out what blocks The Army will be sitting in?

I put a message out on Facebook and so many people I didn't know had have done tours with The Barmy Army all over the world and all of them are so positive about it.... it's exciting!
