I have booked Hong Kong - Adelaide, Adelaide - Perth and Perth - Hong Kong.

I've also booked accommodation in Adelaide and Perth.

I'll book my flights to Hong Kong within the next month or so.

This week funnily enough!

Amsterdam-Perth and Sydney-Amsterdam £860 with Singapore in their sale. Have a free flight to Amsterdam with KLM - thanks to their debacle of getting to Dubai last year - and internal Qantas flights for £8-9 each with BA miles (thanks to a tip from this forum!)

Also, for anyone even considering going to Oz but not yet certain, then is worth considering sorting your accomodation now, particularly for places like Sydney which are notoriousy busy and expensive to book over New Year. I'm 90% sure i'm going but not definite yet and not certain if there'll be 2 of us or just me) so have booked my Melbourne & Sydney hotels through a website that confirms your reservation but has no upfront financial outlay or cancellation risk.

I have always used Booking.com because it offers this functionality to reserve the hotel without paying anything and then pay when you get there. It also gives the option to cancel for free up until a few days before you are due to arrive. Therefore, i have the security of booked hotels and if things change between now and December then it will cost me nothing to cancel. I've used Booking.com for the last few tours including Ashes 2010/11 & Sri Lnka and India this year and never had a bad experience.

I'm too old and fussy for hostels and is a chance my missus may come long this time (which means has to be half decent hotel) so I have got a nice looking hotel in Melbourne (Rydges) for £70 a night for 2 person room and i'am staying at Metro on Pitt in Sydney where i stayed last tour. It's costing £100 a night for 2 person room (this is a hotel where the Barmy Army packages are staying - which if I booked a single room at this hotel with a tour package would cost me nearly £2000 - though match tickets would be included).

There are loads of other places of all budgets (starting from £25 per person per night in Sydney over New Year) but, my advice would be that even if you're thinking of going then use a website like these to book and give peace of mind but where you have no financial outlay or risk if you do cancel.

Strangly, when i tried to book the hotels on the booking.com website through my PC it only showed available dates up until 31 December and that's the same when I used their App. However, when I accessed their website through an Iphone/Ipad then I was able to book my entire SYdney stay up to 8 Jan 2014. No idea why this is but is worth noting that if you are planning on using this website then use an phone or ipad to get Jan '14 dates.

hope this is of use to some

Another website to check out for accommodation is:

www.wotif.com

Places to stay here in Perth can be at a premium due to the large amount of fly in fly out workers. If you don't mind a small bit of travelling, then you could look at staying in Mandurah, which is 50 mins by train to Perth CBD.

Not sure about other cities, but I know in Perth, the Perth Transport Authority run a special bus service every 10 mins from the train station direct to the WACA. You can walk it in around 20-30 mins

O is this free flight still valid and able to book now, I thought it was for the end of last year? Great option to take advantage and do the same route myself so I'll do this if so

I got 2x 50 Euro vouchers from KLM with expiry dates 15/1/14 and 22/1/14. One was from the cancelled outbound flight to Dubai, the other from the heavily delayed return flight (which meant I missed my UK connection and spent 7h at Schiphol !!!)

The cheapest UK-Amsterdam fare with KLM is 79 quid so all but covers this. Can't actually book it yet as want to return 9th Jan 2014 and KLM booking system not open that far yet!

Yes, you can book domestic Qantas flights using your British Airways miles on ba.com. Plenty of availability all round.

Here's the maths.

Brisbane to Adelaide
Economy: 7,500 miles + £12.20 Taxes
Business: 15,000 miles + £12.20 Taxes

Adelaide to Perth
Economy: 10,000 miles + £12.00 Taxes
Business: 20,000 miles + £12.00 Taxes

Perth to Melbourne
Economy: 10,000 miles + £8.40 Taxes
Business: 20,000 miles + £8.40 Taxes

Melbourne to Sydney
Economy: 4,500 miles + £8.30 Taxes
Business: 9,000 miles + £8.30 Taxes

If you do not have any BA miles, you can convert Tesco Clubcard vouchers to BA miles. You'll need the following amounts to convert for economy class travel.

£12.50 Tesco = Melbourne to Sydney

£21.00 Tesco = Brisbane to Adelaide

£28.00 Tesco = Adelaide to Perth or Perth to Melbourne

Just to give a more detailed example of this to save responding to emails on the NZ thread, the loophole is simply that fuel surcharges on Qantas flights are excluded from the ticket price when booked via Brazilian travel agencies.

In some cases other airlines may have lower overall fares than Qantas so you're never going to be assured that Qantas will have the lower fare even with the fuel surcharges removed.

You can book on www.expedia.com.br for piece of mind. The language is in Portuguese but Google Chrome will help you auto translate. Pricing is in Brazilian Real.

Here's a random example......

On Expedia.co.uk I have performed a multi city search as below. Outbound London to Melbourne, returning Sydney to London.

As a comparison, the same flights booked on Expedia.com.br are considerably less.

At the current conversion, 3,094 BRL is approximately £990, some £260 less than booking via Expedia.co.uk

I've highlighted the taxes and the UK site is showing £540 where as the Brazilian site is only £200.

At the moment you can only book up until 27 December 2013 so if you're wanting to return after Sydney then you'll have to wait another two weeks or so until Expedia release those dates for sale.

Moreover, now that Qantas have tied up with Emirates, you can avail yourself of Qantas flight numbers out of regional UK airports on Emirates operated flights. I changed the departure airport from London to Birmingham in the above example and the prices fell by around £40.
