Hi all,

I’m going to all five tests which is my first tour. I’m currently planning what to do between tests and I’m wondering if anyone has been to Australia before and has some recommendations, particularly for the 10 day gap between Brisbane/Adelaide. As I’ve never been before I’m kind of at a loss and don’t really know where to start planning with all these internal flights etc!

Thanks

Chloe

If you are a beach person then i would get yourself to:

Gold Coast/Surfers Paradise (lively and pretty hectic)
Coolangata (lovely beaches and bit more chilled out)

Both of the above are only about a 1 hour drive out of Brisbane.

I would definately recommend heading another hour down the road and spend a few days in Byron Bay, a fantastic place. You can fly from Ballina (Byron) onto Sydney for a day or 2 also, before making your way to Adelaide.

You could also head north out of Brisbane and spend a bit of time on The Sunshine Coast.

Other idea would be to head out on a 3 or 4 day trip from Brisbane to Fraser Island or Stradbroke Island. I have done Stradbroke Island before, lovely spot.

Between Brisbane and Adelaide. After the Brisbane Test it would be possible to fly to Cairns and from there go to Port Douglas. It is a beautiful little town with enough to do for 3/4 nights plus there are lots of companies that organise trips out to the Low Isles and the Great Barrier Reef. I went to PD in 2006/07 and it is one of those places that I would go back to again or recommend to a friend. There's a pub that host Cane Toad races, in case you fancied it!

Or if you want to get to Adelaide early, why not drive up to the Barossa Valley straight from the airport? Easy drive, some great wine tours and again enough to do for 3/4 nights. Was there in 2010/11 when the news of Swann's wickets filtered through on the radio. Superb.

Thanks to you both for these suggestions - will have to look into them and make up my mind!

I'm not from Much Hadham which is a shame because it sounds very nice

Whitsundays are a beautiful set of islands in the Barrier reef that would be good to float around on a nice boat in the gap.
The other option would be to head south earlier and do some of the things there i.e. Great Ocean road with the 12 apostles or maybe a trip over to Tasmania and see the old convict centres.
If you go to Byron a day trip to Nimbin is always a good laugh!

I can recommend a trip around Tasmania. When I did it, I joined a small group tour up the West side as far as Devonport (with Adventure Tours), then three of us got together, rented a car and did the Eastern side, taking a bit longer over it than the tour group.

I did similar, journey from the South East up to Devonport with a car and a tent staying at the free camp sites every night. there is a town called Swansea that has been voted tidiest town in Aus many times! also great walk out to one of the worlds toughest surf breaks call Ship stern bluff, nice walk through the bush and if the surf is working its amazing to watch. Couple hour walk and was flat when I got there!
Port Arthur Penal colony is place to go too

Thanks all, lots of good stuff about Tasmania, will have to get myself over there at some point. Particularly keen to see just how tidy Australia's tidiest town is
