I wanted to confirm that the Barmy Army has been invited to play in 2 fairly high profile and fun cricket matches whilst we are in Alice. On the 27th November we will be playing against a local indigenous Side at the Albrecht Oval and in the evening there is going to be a function organised for us, details TBC but from what we’ve heard it will be a great night with huge interest from the locals in joining us.

Secondly we have confirmed that e will be putting in a team for the Inaugural Desert Beach Cricket Carnival that the local paper is organising on Sunday 1st December. There will be free shuttle buses to and from the event and they are going out of their way to make us most welcome, it is a bound to be a huge drinking party as much as a competitive cricket competition so we’ll be perfectly placed in this regard.

I am very keen to hear from anyone who is interested in playing in either or both events, ideally we are looking for as much cricketing talent as possible but at the ends of the day it’s all about having fun so there will be room for some social cricketers of which I am now one these day! .Please drop me a line to dave@barmyarmy.com if you are interested in playing.

How does this all work? Do you play a game against a local side at each test venue? Do you do similar in other countries? I would be interested in watching, alas my abilities are not enough to play. And I shalln''t be in Alice anyway. Is there a link to a fixture list, wouldnt mind watching if there are games in Melbourne or Sydney.

I would give it a go. Ate. Never played on a regular basis but would make up numbers should you need it. I've sent you email Dave.

The match is now all confirmed for 3pm on the 28th November at the Albrecht Oval, we will be playing a charity T20 match against a team of local Indigenous Cricketers at one of the most picturesque grounds in Alice where we will be raising money for The Clontarf Academies which are schools that exist to improve the education, discipline, life skills, self-esteem and employment prospects of young Aboriginal me.

At the moment I have 5 cricketers confirmed for the match so am eager to hear from those who would like the honour of playing in this match which is bound to generate a significant amount of local and international media interest.

There will be a post-match BBQ followed by a function at Overlanders Steakhouse which we are reliably informed will be a brilliant post match party.

The Barmy Army T20 is sponsored by Crabbie’s so we will have cricket shirts for our team whilst Cricket NT will supply the bats and pads etc.

Please contact dave@barmyarmy.com for more information or catch up with me at the GABBA/Pig N Whistle/Chalk Hotel next week!
