Of course it wasn't Clarke's fault and the Umpires were only applying the instructions they have to work to. Clarke was completely out of order in approaching the umpires before they made their decision though, and as he had to be pushed away he should be fined ...

Nah, I wouldn't want to see him fined for that. Yes you are right he had no business trying to muscle in but C'Mon Mo.........given the circumstances I reckon he can be forgiven for that. I'm quite sure if the situation was reversed our boys would have had plenty to say as well.

But in the cold light of day I hope everyone realises it was not Michael Clarkes or the umpires fault any of this.

Sad part in that for me was that he has been by far the better captain throughout the series (sadly), he set up a run chase that was more than fair in a bid to get some sort of positive result for his team. He sees it go t.ts up and becomes the archetypal Aussie again. If he'd approached the umpires and made it plain he was happy to go with it and get a result irrespective of the light they could happily have ignored the conditions and gotten a result. He would have been roundly applauded for his sportmanship, taken the moral high-ground (when compared to the Broad affair) and promptly retired.

(Sorry I had to get that in again)

On reflection, how difficult would it have been to drape a couple of black sheets over the sightscreens, get out a white ball and finish off the match?

If only it could be that simple.
