Cook 6/10 Not a particularly great series for him to be honest. Batting below average and captaincy neither dynamic or proactive. Maybe one has been the result of the other. I'll back him to regain his batting form, but whether he's a natural captain is open to debate.

Root 7/10 Overall you have to say he's had a reasonably good first series. A high number of failures but one matching winning innings and a couple of useful knocks elsewhere. Still think he may drop down the order at some point.

Trott 5/10 A poor series for Englands accumulator. Will need to go away and work on a few things if he is to dominate in Australia again.

Pieterson 7/10 Another respectable series for Englands most gifted batsman. One quality knock, a few decent knocks but a few failures too.

Bell 9/10 Am glad what was looking like the nearly man has finally dominated a series with the bat. Totally classy, and never looking in any trouble. Lets hope he carries this on down under

Bairstow 6/10 Reminds me of Bell in his early days. Looks comfortable, starts to build an innings and then gets out. A couple of useful knocks but will need to improve if he is to cement his place.

Prior 6/10 Keeping has been pretty good, bar one or two notable errors, but batting disappointing. Hope his feisty innings at the Oval is a sign of things to come.

Broad 8/10 Started quietly but has got better and better as the series has moved on. Some inspired bowling spells and a couple of vital contributions with the bat.

Swann 8/10 Still a class act and took advantage of the fairly dry pitches. Just a question of how many more test series we can get out of him. Like the above, some important contributions with the bat too.

Anderson 8/10 Massive influence in the first two tests and almost single handedly bowled England to victory early in the series. Less influential as the series went on, but still bowled with guile and intent.

Finn 5/10 After a bright start turned into a liability and was not trusted. Pitches did not help him at all, but needs to develop as a player if he is to regain his place.

Bresnan 7/10 You know what you are going to get with him. Steady bowling and some reasonable batting. Good contribution in his three tests.

Woakes 6/10 Batting all rounder who bowled reasonably with no reward. Whether he is ever going to be a permanent fixture in the team is open to debate

Kerrigan 3/10 Sadly one of the worst debuts for a bowler I can remember. Nerves got the better of him and never looked comfortable. Will he come again?

We've won this series without a number of batsmen scorng at their normal levels and with effectively four bowlers. We will get better though, not so sure the Aussies can ... :o Disappointed at the handling of Kerrigan, the boy needs confidence, surely he could have been bowled in the second innings, especially once Warner and Watson were out :?:

THINK YOU HAVE MOST OF THEM ABOUT RIGHT, sorry caps lock. Trotty a six maybe. I'm with MO about Kerrigan, (sorry, Preston lad). Undoubtedly had a poor start but he didn't get the call for no reason, 49 wkts at a good rate and he's very young. Spinners have to learn their trade, and sometimes its a costly experience; Doesn't mean we forget someone because of one nervous start surely.
If we had, we might not be watching one of the greatest English spinners of all time playing for us now. At 34 we need to be at least thinking about his replacement, thankfully without having to panic.

To be honest, modern Test Cricket is a results business and there can be no time for appeasing players who may have suffered a loss in confidence over a very short period of time. We desperately wanted to win that game and threw our best bowlers at Australia. There was no real sympathy for Finn when he wasn't trusted to bowl so sadly Kerrigan had to take a back seat. The harsh realities of life at the highest level.

However, I agree we need to think about a long term replacement for Swann and will have to involve a young spinner soon. I don't think the 2nd innings was the time and the place for Kerrigan. He could easily have been hit all over the place again as the Aussies were going for quick runs.
