A couple of weeks ago we would never have got it , the wrangle over the development went well , we win the championship and now this . I say lucky in a good way not in a way we dont deserve it,lets hope redevelopment of the ground comes on at a good pace.

Over the previous 5 home ashes series's this is how England have faired at the test grounds.

1993 to 2009

Oval played 5, won 3, drew 1, lost 1
Edgbaston played 5, won 2, drew 1, lost 2
Lords played 5, won 1, drew 1, lost 3
Trent Bridge played 4, won 1, drew 1, lost 2
Headingley played 3, won 1, drew 0, lost 2
Old Trafford played 3, won 0, drew 1, lost 2
Cardiff played 1, won 0, drew 1, lost 0

I don't know what this tells us despite the 2 London grounds and Edgbaston have had a test everytime, we've had some success at the Oval and Edgbaston but not so much at Lords, but Lords are never going to miss out!! Old Trafford and Headingley have missed out twice during this period and out of the 3 at Old Trafford, England haven't won, losing twice!!
Of course these statistics mean absolutely nothing, I was just bored really and thought it would be interesting to see who's had the most ashes tests in (very) recent times!!!

Still p****d off though about Edgbaston :(

If success was part of the criteria (don't think it is) note the total of all tests played at Cardiff is played 2, won 1, drew 1, lost 0 :o

Agree about this though, ahead of most other locations, including Cardiff, as its fairly central if nothing else (and I don't mean there's nothing else going for it)

Hopefully they will have had time to demolish that horrific red thing before the test starts, maybe whack up a couple of temporary stands just to make it look a bit nicer ....

I'm afraid its twin sister is whats actually going to happen. I do'nt like it and neither do many of you, the simple fact is that the prospective revenue they will create outside of cricket is likely to be the lifeblood of the club.

The other real issue is the amount of tests we get (ie ashes) We have to accept that there are possibly too many test grounds now. The clubs who have put a lot of money and no little effort into gaining the status deserve their reward and we'll all have to make do with a little less.
However, can someone please explain to me why London has to have 2 tests every time we play the Aussies. Lords fine, I can understand the reasons but the Oval, sorry no deal.
