1. Warner (25yo)
2. Hughes (23yo) - Don't laugh, lets give him time
3. Marsh (28yo)
4. Khawaja (24yo)
5. Clarke (30yo)
6. Watson (30yo)
7. Paine (24yo) - I don't actually know anything about this guy
8. Sidddle (25yo)
9. Pattinson (21yo)
10. Cummins (18yo)
11. Lyon (24yo)

Average age = 24.
Add the injury prone Harris to that attack and you have about 130+ wickets at an average of about 21. Not saying their world beaters, and still room for a few of the oldish guard like Hussey and Haddin, but there's at least potential. Might yet have a competitive Ashes in 18 months time. All this moaning about Warner pre series was a bit too early imo. Just like it would be too early to say he's going to have a great test career, but he did play well. Remember England lost to saffers, india and windies in succession and were all out for 51ish in the 30 months since then we've not lost and are number 1 in the world - it can all change in a relatively small length of time. 1998 - England 0 - Aus 76. 2003 - England win RWC in Sydney

Yes many are young, but there is a great deal of difference between being talented and making it as an international test cricketer. Ravi Bopara ... Most of those listed have achieved very little so far. When they've been around a bit and are still performing then it may be a different argument. It looks like Hughes has already been "found out" and I suspect Warner and Khawaja will suffer the same treatment once the tapes are looked at, and this may be true of the young bowlers as well. Fletcher with India in the forthcoming series will no doubt reveal some of this. Many Aussies are putting forward Wade for the keeping spot ...

Well, yes, I was kind of saying their not proven yet, but at least they appear to have something. 2010/11 It just seemed like they were totally useless, everyone they brought in was in desperate hope rather than expectation.

Incidentally I remember thinking in 2000 that it's just a matter of time before Gilchrist gets "found out". Alright we had him for breakfast in 2005, but that's it really. Regards people looking at videos and working them out, well that happens to most players, I'd've thought, and it is the test of whether they're good or not whether they can continue to adapt and improve their game to combat this. Remains to be seen, but they're looking better in December 2011 than they were in Jan 2011.

Warner doesn't look to be a Test player to me. His hundred against the Kiwis must have been one of the streakiest in Test history. Batting with the tail he looked utterly clueless and kept leaving his partners exposed.

Hughes was found out a long time ago, and doesn't look to have improved his technique since. Why they brought him back is a mystery to me.

What has Khawaja done so far? I thought he looked fairly tidy when he first came into the side, but he hasn't pushed on, and to me looks nothing special.

Cummins and Pattinson have both shown a certain amount of promise I agree, but I notice you didn't mention Mitchell Johnson's like-for-like replacement, Mitchell Starc, who looked totally out of his depth against a fairly weak batting line-up in what should have been very helpful bowling conditions.

Lyon seems to have a bit more backbone than some of their recent spin bowling selections, but whether he has (or can develop) the technique to go with it remains to be seen.

... and injuries will play a part too

and of course Cummings heal injury will be a worry in one so young, especially as the workload kicks in

I'd guess India will target the spinner in the coming tests, so we'll soon see what he's made of, assuming it's Lyon :o

I'm not really one for cricket politics and stuff, but I thought this was an interesting article...

The defeat last winter will really really really hurt the aussies and they'll want to hit back asap.

My view is that Warner is a limited overs player that Aus is hoping will adapt to the long form. Over here, they are creaming themselves at this guy right now. Just like Hughes, his time will come where the bowlers work out his weakness and he'll be gone. I don't rate him.

Kawajha I think has a touch of class in him. I really think it is a confidence thing with him and he will eventually come good and be a real asset to Aus in the future.

Aus just need to pick some players who value their wicket. They have too many bashers in their team and wonder why they have been dismissed for so many below 100 scores in the last 2 years (4 I think in their last 14 tests). They continue to pick bashers then they will continue to get out in such fashions.

Marsh will add some strength to the batting line-up I think.

As for those bowlers. It's hard to tell how they will go really. Sure they just got shed load of wickets, but it was against one of the worst batting lineups in the test rankings right now. Will be interesting to see if Cummins and Pattinson can back up their performance against the Indians.

I'm not sure Khawaja is all that really - it felt like the Aussies (and some English to be fair!) clutching at straws in the Ashes - all the rest of the batting was struggling so badly (and in the main getting on in age) that him coming in and sticking around a bit got hyped out of proportion to his actual ability.

I'm not convinced Hughes is ever going to come good for them either - he might bully a few weaker attacks, but he'd be a walking wicket for the likes of Anderson again unless he sorts himself and overhauls his whole game.

would be easy to list our younger players coming through as well, but it doesn't mean they'll really make, and importantly, maintain it, at the very top. It'll be interesting to see how they'll recover, after the NZ setback, against a Fletcher-inspired India

Apparently, we're not now going to see how a couple of these youngsters do on Boxing Day ... brought in some near 30 year olds to replace them ... talented, young-ish :?:
