Warner 101* from 69 balls. India 161ao. Aus 146/0.

India isn't the most testing attack in the world, all I'm saying is that 10 or more years ago I made the mistake of dismissing Gilchrist. "He'll get found out soon enough" was my theory.

Two things -

1.Indian are currently total gash.

2. This really puts I.V.A. Richards' 56 ball century into context. Easily the best batsman of all time. Only one Master Blaster.

One could argue that he did get found out....eventually. If you look at his stats for the last 3 years of his career they were pretty lame. I think England were the first to find his weakness in the 05 series, full in swinging yorkers were his main mode of dismissal for the rest of his career after that series.

To me, Warner's bash says a lot more about the WACCA than it does about him. If you look at the top 7 fastest centuries in test cricket, 4 of them are in Perth.

Warner's bash paid off this time, but as someone else said, this is against an attack that bowled with no discipline or plan. So far in his career, he has only played one innings that wasn't at more than 75 strike rate (Hobart). All the others he has scored runs fast and got out fast and exposed the weak Aussie batting lineup at a time when Aus want stability at the top. In my opinion the selectors are dumb for selecting such a batsman in the first place when stability is needed. He WILL get found out but while the attacks he faces are poor he will likely fill his boots. I'm sure the Saffas are licking their lips at the prospect of bowling to him!

Warner is a bish, bash, bosh merchant - a bit like Luke Wright - who doesn't have the discipline or temperament to be a consistent test cricketer.

And so far I see no sign of any concerted attempt by Australia to build a new side after the debacle of the Ashes - their middle-order collapses are still a joy to watch.

We'll judge this guy and others on more than one innings/match/series.

You've resurrected a two-year-old post to prove what ? That Warner has matured as a batsman and Australia finalled gelled as a test team after losing in the summer ?

Yes that really is scraping the barrel. Still, it's nice to see that we have Australian friends who have enough time on their hands to study our forum in such depth.
