Could have said retired, but he has'nt, he's quit. Time to consider before any premature moves. Enough has gone under the bridge lately and its time to reflect before we make any rash moves. |

Gutted. A true gent and genuine leader of men. I hope the runs don't dry up for Cook now. |

A class act. Even down to knowing when to go. |

what a shame...great player, and great captain..acheived loads for England and just a shame his retirement comes in the middle of all of the KP stuff going on. All the best for the future Straussy and thanks for everything! |

It's not the most appealing in-tray for the new management team. In many ways I don't envy Cook professionalmanager.co.uk/news/5026/grim-tasks-await-for-england-management-as-strauss-quits/ |

I had hoped that Strauss would have stayed on as a batsman but can understand why he wants a clean break. Lord knows that it means for our batting line up. I imagine that Trott will move up to open, Bell at 3, the Bairstow, Taylor and Bopara. Eeek! That's a pretty green top six! |

I personally like Alex Hales at Nottingham but I think they feel he isn't the finished article. They may go with Compton at Somerset. Regardless of who comes in we are going to be weaker, as i said on facebook - i've seen his career from the first test at Lords against New Zealand, throughout his career and his final test. He's been fantastic player and leader. He was superb at 1st slip and worried that we are making a lot of changes with not much time before the next ashes. I think it's inevitable that KP will come back into the team because of the lack of experience. |

I'll always remember that one handed catch he made at Trent Bridge catching Gilchrist off the bowling of A.Flintoff. Unbelievable. |
