He's played in Australia's T20 and ODI side, after the Australian government bent its immigration rules to allow it.
And then there's Andrew Symonds, Kepler Wessels and at least 15 or 20 more over the years.
Oh dear,another fail.

You are scraping the barrel now,how many years are you going back now 10??? and tell me an Aussie team that has had more than 1 in at any time.youpoms have had dozens in your team including at least four in the same side AND.....OVER THE YEARS ENGLAND HAVE BEEN CAPTAINED BY AT LEAST 17 PLAYERS NOT BORN IN ENGLAND.....and the 15 or 20 more you refer to was more than likely in the 1800s

How many of your current tourist were not born in England,I would say at least 6.

In Australia at present we are talking about Australia v The Rest of the World, and boy-o-boy are they having a "Rest"

The Empire and its legacy means that most people living in England have at least some family ties with one or more other countries, from the Caribbean to the subcontinent and New Zealand, to Australia. The number of people of British descent living abroad is vast. The media here makes a big thing about immigration, but there is also almost as much (sometimes more) emigration going on. It's a two way process. People move backwards and forwards all the time, too. A family will move abroad, and they or their offspring will often return. For example, Kevin Pietersen's mum's parents moved from England to South Africa when she was very young, and her son moved in the other direction.

Like most of the overseas-born players who have represented England, he is very much a product of English cricket. Although he arrived in England at a later age than most, he did so as a very mediocre off-spinner. It was his time in England that turned him from a not very good specialist bowler into a bordering on great specialist batsman.

In any case, the truth of the matter is that qualification to represent a country in international cricket has never been based on a player's country of birth. It has always tended to be based more on where a player plays his cricket.

To illustrate how pathetic your obsession with birthplace is, here is a brief history lesson:

The first Test match between England and Australia was played in Melbourne in 1877. The Australian team included the following:

C. Bannerman (born in England)
T.P. Horan (born in Ireland)
B.B. Cooper (born in the part of India that is now Bangladesh)
W.E. Midwinter (born in England)
T.K. Kendall (born in England)
J.R. Hodges (born in England)

So in the very first Test match a benchmark was set, and that benchmark doesn't seem to have had anything whatsoever to do with birthplace, does it?

You are from a country whose own prime minister was born overseas, and whose head of state (who your people voted to keep) is not only foreign but doesn't even live there! I therefore find it hard to understand why you and so many of your fellow countrymen have a problem with England picking the overseas-born players they have in most cases developed from a young age, or in a handful of cases they have attracted to their shores by means of the best domestic first class cricket competition in the world.

Maybe it appeals to the same Australian sense of victimhood that England's great (overseas-born) captain Douglas Jardine identified and exploited so successfully.

Agreed.
Even I am struggling to excuse his " banter " as being anything more than the utterings of a gormless juvenile.
I think it's simply the inferiority complex gnawing away at his innards.
But let's not tar all the Convicts with the same bursh - some of the fellows I met last time I toured Down Under were decent coves who were mortified at the antics of these ocker oiks.

A bunch of us attended a Sri Lanka v Australia series a few years ago, and the Australians we met there (apart from some of the Fanatics) were a wonderful bunch of like-minded cricket fans, and we all had a great time together. I'm talking about the Waving the Flag crowd and their fellow travellers, although I'm not sure whether they're still going, sadly.
