Is this the beginning of the franchise county/city cricket?

I know of a lot of Coventry, Nuneaton, Leamington, Stratford, Studley and even Birmingham based bears supporters not very happy at all about this!!!

Thoughts?

Gotta say I would be similarly aggrieved. Some of the guff about 'target groups' seems to be on the verge of saying that they aren't that bothered about new, and more importantly existing supporters from outside the city.
They want people to associate Friday evenings with Birmingham cricket, the problem then is getting the newcomers to associate Warwickshire as their county and turning up to those matches as well. Some will obviously not identify with 'both' teams and I can just imagine being sat next to some joker who 'was looking forward to the derby against Warwicks'.
Not even a reasonable idea and you are right to be concerned.

T20 is about making money and Warwickshire seem to think they have identified a potential untapped market. Maybe they're onto something, although I have my doubts. The name change is no more than a gimmick, but then again T20 itself is one big gimmick, so I suppose it's quite appropriate in a way. Maybe the kind of audience that watches T20 will love it.

I just hope they're not alienating too many supporters from outside of Birmingham, otherwise it will backfire on them big time.
