Less than a year away from the Ashes and we have a captain and opening batsman who can't buy a decent Test score.
At the very least he shouldn't be in the ODI team and if he continues to prod away outside off like a county muppet for the rest of this summer getting out in the low 20s there surely must come a point when he should be dropped.
If he wasn't captain he wouldn't and shouldn't be in this team.

He's struggling, but his overall record means that we would be justified in dropping him only if we had a rich seam of alternatives. The Aussies in their pomp could boot out Michael Slater, and give Matthew Elliott only a few Tests, because they had so many other superb batsmen. For us, dropping Cook means bringing back Carberry or Compton. No, stick with Cook.

But he is a very poor captain and it looks increasingly clear that it's affecting his batting too. But again - who else? Maybe Broad, but an opening bowler as skipper is a last resort, for a lot of good reasons. Prior, if he gets back on top of his game, but not yet. And there the list stops. Yes, Mr Bell, there the list stops.

Mind you, Closey could still do a job

I said more or less the same thing about Michael Vaughan a few years ago,and got hung, drawn and quartered by a few on here.

I have always been a supporter of Cook but can somebody please explain to me why with 12 balls of the match remaining and SL still needing 188 runs, he had a square leg and a mid off ?
I've been watching cricket for 40 years and really should know the answer.

He appears a little dimwitted.

England captain Alastair Cook has called for a crackdown on "personal" attacks on his style of leadership.

And now he's let Warne get to him !
I like Cooky. He's a decent bloke and a great batsman. But for the sake of his career and England's near future he really needs to man-up and stop whining.

Groundhog Day.
Perfect batting conditions - check
County-level bowling attack - check
Waft aimlessly at ball bowled across the stumps - check
Easy slip catch - check.
Out for a low score - check.

It's becoming almost predictable how Cook is going to get out and if we know it then every decent international bowler knows it.
What I can't quite understand is how a front-line bowler like Finn can be consigned to a county season to sort out his confidence and bowling issues and a decent batsman like Compton can be dropped so quickly because of a technical fault yet England persevere with an opening batsman who hasn't scored a Test century in 14 months and who keeps getting out the same way.
A torrid time in Australia can be excused but this is becoming a joke.

He seems to be putting himself under increased pressure, which manifested itself with his reaction to Warne this week. Needs to perform soon, and the India matches will provide a sterner test. Can't see an alternative captain at the moment though ?

Eoin Morgan.
Superb cricketing brain, fantastic middle-order batsman. well respected by his peers.
Trouble is he's a Paddy and is consigned to the short-order game in the list of England's priorities.
Why we persist in this nonsense that an England captain has to be a lantern-jawed,public-school educated chap who gives a good press conference is beyond me.
International sport is and should be aggressively tough - try telling the manager of a top-level US baseball team that his captain has done diddly-squat for over a year but he should still be in the team because he's the captain and he'll laugh in your face.
If Cooky fails for the rest of this summer against India wafting away outside off stump without going away to work on his technique with the England batting coaches ( hello, what's your salary and why is your premier batsman still doing exactly the same as he was doing in Australia in the winter ? ) then Australia next summer will make us look foolish again.
