I have tried to stay on board with Cook the captain, I really have.......but today was the last straw for me.

This was as shockingly bad a captaincy as I ever ever seen.

Get the perfect wicket that you have been chuntering about all summer......tick.

Win the toss and insert the opposition.......tick.

Hot humid conditions with the ball hooping.....tick.

And what do we see?? 1 ball on the stumps in the first ten overs and then Pluckett bowling round the wicket with 2 fielders out on the hook.

Then we get Jimmy Anderson with the second new ball bowling to Indias No 10 with the field spread.........6 fielders on the rope FFS.

Cooky, I love you.....but you are not a captains arse mate. You need to step aside.

And then followed up by another poor shot and his 26th England innings without a century to leave the middle-order having to do all the work again.
I love Cooky too but he's now too much of a liability as an opener to warrant further inclusion in the team.
If he had any sense he'd drop himself to save further embarrassment - he still has plenty of miles left on the clock to go away and re-invent his technique.
Matty Prior,however,is dead man walking.

Hate to say it but I think I agree with you now Rizzla.

Still don't think sending Cook back to Essex will do him any good, been there done that. I think the bloke needs to go back to the farm and forget about cricket for a wee while and get his head right. Sit the rest of the summer out and join back with the team in the winter.........as a batsmen only.

Agree about Prior too. Love the man to pieces but he is done......it's just painful watching him struggle like this.

I reckon the time has come for a massive throw of the dice.......Root for skip and bring in Butler. Neither are ready but they can't be worse than the incumbents.

The problem is England are stuck in a mindset. Cook won't be sacked as captain and he can be out for less than 20 playing the same shot in every innings for the rest of the summer and he still won't be dropped as opener.

Central contracts mean no-one from the county game has much of a look-in for the rest of this year.

We'll fudge and obfuscate and scrape the odd win until the Sri Lankan series which will do fuck all to prepare the team for the World Cup and then, hello, back come the Convicts for some easy pickings next summer.

I agree on the possibility of Root as captain. He's immature and lippy in the field but he's a Yorkie and they're tought nuts who thrive under pressure.

Cooky is a busted flush. It's painful to watch his captaincy - like meeting up with an old bird who has gone back to wearing too much make-up and terrible clothes five years out of date.

Unfortunately he's become the Wayne Rooney of English cricket.

Historically I've not been a big fan of Ali C, but I can't see a lot of alternatives at present (Root to open, Bopara / Morgan at 5 and Broad to captain?).

We've got 3 inexperienced batsman in the top 6 (if you count Root as experienced), and non performing bowlers. Can't blame it ll on AC. What can you expect from a team that has no spinner, a dodgy captain, 2 mediocre all rounders and a dodgy keeper (with no obvious contenders pushing for a place).

Is it my imagination or is England's demise directly related to a reduction in the number of Saffers in the team?

I could not think of a worse scenario than that. Is that a serious suggestion??

Roots just come good again after the craziness of shunting him up the order.

And Broad captain?? I'd seriously stop watching if that happens.

I did say that I couldn't see a lot of alternatives.

If AC is out then the only experienced players are Bell, Prior, Broad & Anderson (Broad is the logical pick of the 4). If you don't like that then my plan B is ..... Banger to open (short term solution) and KP back as captain at 4. Also either Ali or Stokes has to go to make way for a proper spinner.

Innings No 27 without a century.
Out playing the same shot.
It's becoming routinely predictable.

That was absolute, utter shite this afternoon. Total lack of backbone, 5 out hooking FFS ! Stokes is never a test player as long as he has a hole in his arse.

Some people rise to captaincy, others don't. Since becoming SL captain 11 matches ago, Angelo Mathews has averaged over 80 with the bat. Leading by example. He has got the right name ; what a pity he is not English.
Cook has to go as captain, but who replaces him.
