I see the 2 test packages have sold out,the price was from £2229. Is it just me or does any one else think that its vastly over priced.Seems to be getting just like football where these compaines are totally ripping off the genuine sports fan. Whats the ashes going to be? £5000 upwards i bet.... Some people must have more money then sense....... |

YEah Thompsons was OTT on price - they quoted me £3k because I had a single supplement on there. I booked the first test in the Koggala, but sorted my own flights and then got my own hotel for the second test - saved just over £1k. Only problem is, I now need transfers from airport to hotel (see recent post, if anyone's interested in sharing) - but reckon it's still better than paying £3k!!! |

£3k is scandalous for a 2 week trip to Sri Lanka. The problem is as with Football is that the official supporters groups are now touting these companies as the "official supplier" which in my eyes is them just condoneing the over inflated prices they are charging. All these groups start off for the real fans and then just end up in the corperate cirlcle themselves |

Not rocket science that booking everything yourself works out cheaper than getting someone else to do it. If someone who is moaning about these apparent exortionate costs could price me up how much they would charge for a similar tour if they were running a travel business I'd be interested to see the price you come up with and how you arrive at that figure ie what costs are included. |

Thats my point exactly, you start off just trying to get people to matches and then it eventually turns into a business and then the cost goes wild. Same company are offering day trips to the Euros for £699 Once one company charges this then all the rest follow suit. Only really sportoptions that are still reasonable price wise but not sure if they run trips to the cricket? |

Please include for cost of flights, accommodation, transfers, research (include for pre-tour visit), tour guides/reps (both their flights/accom etc plus salary/expenses), marketing, advertising, leasing an office, business rates, administrative costs including staff and overheads, insurance, IT costs including provision of a secure payment facility, costs of ABTA membership/compliance with other industry standards and any other costs associated with running this sort of business. |

There's a great deal of difference in doing these things for yourselves and running a business, and there is always someone who'll do it cheaper, even in business. Not attempting to justify anything, but lets remember that these trips have sold out, and therefore in the scheme of things, somebody must have felt they were good value, and they must by definition have filled a need/demand. It takes all types and as long as those buying, at the prices they did, made an informed decision ... fair enough. If people don't do their research before buying that's their problem, and remember the premium hospitality tickets for the two tests have sold as well despite the 'knowledge' that on the door the price will be drastically less ... |

Look! i happen to think its legalised extortion (my opinion) and if people are willing to pay that sort of price then fair play to them.Thomson would pay all Abta / IT / ECT anyway as there a holiday company and would run holidays regrdless of sport. I have booked flights for the T20 in sept for £520 and all accomadtion for two weeks for £600 (thats the 1st week in hilton colombo and 2nd wk on the beach in Unawatana),yes i dont have the security of a "tour guide" but i'm sure thats not the end of the world as you must be able to sort that stuff when you get there.I have worldwide travel insurance which "should" cover most eventualites if needed (hope not) that was £48 for the year and i'll get my own tickets (which Thomson dont provide anyway). Each to there own as they say and when we get there we'll all eat the same food and drink the same beer |
