After spending many years Morris Dancing, and now being a convert to Cricket, I think there is a measure of 'Englishness' mssing from the Test Match etc atmosphere. Not wishing to detract from BA songs, musical input and fancy dress, I think a Morris costume would compliment these elements, along with dance displays at various venues, both home and abroad. regards, pjk49 |

Go for it though! |

Harvey, Thanks for this reply. I still think the idea has some mileage in it. Norman Knights carry swords into grounds, if I'm correct?. Sticks used in dancing could look somewhat like stumps. I have other ideas about costume etc that would be in keeping with the cricket theme.... |

I think the wink is fairly important PJK, it implies that he's not being totally serious. |

XXX On a slightly more serious note....good luck with your plans....I'm going to think that it may not go as well as you would like. We had some Morris Dancers doing a Mumming play in our local just before Xmas....let's just say that the pub was laughing at them rather than with them. Factor in a couple of hundred pissed up cricket fans and I think you can see where I'm going with that. |

Morris Dancers doing Mummers Plays is always questionable and should not necessarily be encouraged. Biggest problem with the main idea is logistics - getting enough people together that have a sense of timing/rhythm/knowing left from right (at all times) and commitment etc.....then there's the music - fiddles/accordians. With greatest respect to the single trumpet, that would not suffice. However, a brewers dray collective of suitably oiled crickets fans could provide mouth music?..... |
