Want to play for the Barmy Army in The Bashes?
The squads are being selected, the venues are ready and the media have been briefed ahead of what is set to be the second best series of cricket in Australia this summer. The anticipation is growing and we are now delighted to invite you to play in our very own fans ashes series.
Here is all the key information you need to know:
On each day of BASHES cricket, we will hold 2 games of cricket against The Richies and The Fanatics except for Melbourne where we will be playing Middle Park CC as the Richies have cried off for Christmas. These will generally be the shorter format of T20 with games starting around 11.30am and 2/3pm. You will need to turn up to the ground 30 minutes before the game so you can meet your teammates. There will be a vigorous 30 minute intensive warm up – we take these games very seriously…. You can choose from three of the following warm ups, the bar, catching practise or the BBQ.
In terms of playing kit, the hosts will provide all protective equipment but we suggest you bring some trainers and shorts to play in. Whites are very much optional.
There is a $50 match fee to play and you will get to keep the Barmy Army playing top as a great souvenir for the game in representing England v Australia. All players need to be full First Class Members of the Barmy Army to play.
These games are very prestigious and the demand to play in them very much outstrips the spaces available. To register your interest in playing, please contact me with your full BA membership number, the club and league you pay for as well as your preferred role in the team. (If you’re not a full First Class member, you can sign up here www.barmyarmy.com/first-class.html)
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that these games are very popular and can attract crowds anywhere from 100-750 spectators. Feel free to bring family and friends along, our hosts will put on a BBQ and bar at each venue. The media coverage is huge on national and international TV, as well as social media and written press. So time to get practicing your reverse sweeps and one handed diving catches!
If you have any questions please get in touch with myself.
